SUMMARY

Paragon Professional Services, LLC, a subsidiary of Bering Straits Native Corporation, is currently seeking a qualified Environmental Field Technician for seasonal work out of our Anchorage, Alaska office. Paragon is looking for a qualified and self-motivated individual to safely perform field activities including environmental sampling, data evaluation, and to support report preparation for existing environmental contracts.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Essential Duties and Responsibilities are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties performed for this position and are not intended to reflect all duties performed within the job. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Travel to field locations and support Field Leads for: collection of environmental field data; soil boring, monitoring well installation, groundwater, soil, and surface water sampling activities for laboratory analyses.
  • Assist Field Leads with preparation for soil boring and well drilling activities.
  • Data analysis support for the preparation of draft workplans and reports.
  • Support overall project management tasks including the collection and dissemination of meeting minutes, preparation of monthly project reports and estimates at completion, and other tasks assigned by members of the project teams.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION

Required (Minimum Necessary) Qualifications (applies to both this section and KSAO’s)

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Studies
  • Familiarity with the use of YSI field instrumentation
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Willingness and ability to adapt to changing work scopes, locations and schedules
  • Familiarity/experience with technical data analysis using Microsoft Excel

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics

  • Strong adherence to safety protocols
  • Ability to work within a team
  • Strong organizational skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, computer literacy, and strong attention to detail
  • Ability to perform quality control functions during site work
  • Ability to support simultaneous or subsequent environmental investigation or cleanup activities at multiple remote Alaska locations throughout the field season
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite software

Preferred

  • 40 Hour HAZWOPER
  • Understanding of environmental chemistry
  • Experience investigating and remediating petroleum spills and other contaminants
  • Experience participating in all phases of an environmental investigation or cleanup project
  • Experience working with Federal and State agencies and local stakeholders on environmental projects

NECESSARY PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for bending, stooping, sitting, walking, or standing for prolonged periods of time sometimes in rough or challenging terrain. Must be able to safely lift and carry 40 pounds. Must be willing and able to switch between working outdoors to an office setting dependent on project needs.

DOT COVERED/SAFETY-SENSITIVE ROLE REQUIREMENTS

  • This position is not subject to federal requirements regarding Department of Transportation “safety-sensitive” functions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be borne by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

This Job is performed in a combination of outdoor and office site locations. Outdoor settings include walking, driving, and carrying supplies throughout all seasons with exposure to heat and cold conditions, and potentially wildlife. Some extended overnight travel may be required. The office setting includes exposure to computer screens and requires extensive use of a computer, keyboard, and mouse.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • No supervisory responsibilities.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORS

As a condition of employment, you will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening and have acceptable background check results. If applicable to the contract, you must also obtain the appropriate clearance levels required and be able to obtain access to military installations.
