POSITION/TITLE: Material Handler / Inventory Control

SUMMARY:

Under the general supervision of the Warehouse Manager and Director of Distribution Center Operations - Alabama, the Material Handler/Inventory Control position will assist in maintaining the integrity of the organization’s inventory, supplying necessary items while maintaining accurate records of all inventory. This position is responsible for performing inventory control transactions which may include but are not limited to receiving, counting, inspecting, sorting, kitting, packaging, and shipping product. When not engaged in inventory control activities, this position will also provide warehousing support such as but not limited to offloading trucks, loading trucks, picking orders, and moving, and storage of inbound and outbound finished goods and shipments.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Inventory Control

  • Performing complete inventory checks of assigned stock and supplies weekly.
  • Assists in the accurate record keeping of inventory using the company’s warehouse management system to identify the proper location of products at all times.
  • Performs cycle counts based as required or requested
  • Supports the warehouse admin with administrative tasks (e.g. inventory moves, inventory location, and inventory counts, etc.).
  • Assists and supports in performing a physical inventory.
  • Assessing and recording weights and dimensions of parts and equipment.
  • Ensuring all documentation related to inventory flows is complete, accurate, and filed correctly.
  • Reporting to management and purchasing teams inventory levels; high, low, or incorrect inventory stock counts in order to keep suitable inventory levels
  • Maintains labeling system on each stock item; make sure all items received are labeled with the appropriate lot number and or serial number.
  • Reporting discrepancies between physical counts and computer records.
  • Sweep, dust, and mop. Always organize warehouse and work area for orderliness.
  • Prepare inventory documentation: this involves accurately recording type, quantity, quality, and other features of inventory for a clear understanding of the state of the inventory
  • Ensure that inventories are constantly up to standards
  • Ensure that whatever merchandise is received meets order specifications
  • Oversee the constant flow of stock in and out of the warehouse facility
  • Ensure maintenance of optimal levels of stock for availability as the need arises
  • Ensure proper management of aging and excess stocks
  • Respond to complaints and queries concerning inventories and products
  • Prepare and submit inventory control reports to the warehouse manager
  • Attend to inquiries concerning products and inventories
  • Carry out inventory control to ensure inventories are at optimal levels
  • Provide assistance and direction to colleagues as required
  • Issues purchase orders to the warehouse manager for approval and re-ordering when needed
  • Monitor the inventory stock level in the warehouse facility and requests replenishment when necessary.
  • Uses scanning terminals to record and move inventory stock and inventory locations.
  • Inspect the levels of business supplies and raw materials to identify shortages
  • Ensure product stock is adequate for all distribution channels and can cover direct demand from customers
  • Place orders to replenish stock avoiding insufficiencies or excessive surplus
  • Collaborate with warehouse employees and other staff to ensure business goals are met
  • Report to warehouse manager on stock levels, issues, etc.

Material Handler

  • Operate various lifting and moving equipment including, but not limited to forklifts, hand tools, and other devices operated in a warehouse environment while maintaining the highest level of productivity and accuracy.
  • Receiving and recording inventory that arrives and moving the inventory to its proper bin location
  • Locate, pick, move, and store material and equipment according to established procedures, both written and verbal
  • Move materials off racks and or floor space and package them for shipment.
  • When strapping makes sure enough straps are used to support the palletized items without damage.
  • When wrapping the palletized items make sure they are thoroughly wrapped to help prevent any damage and prevent any loss of goods
  • Check the physical condition of materials to be delivered or stocked.
  • Work with RF Scanning equipment to maintain records of merchandise shipped, as well as examine, stock, and distribute materials in inventory.
  • Maintain proper documentation and records using various paper forms and computer systems
  • Follows and complies with all safety rules and regulations.
  • Maintain individual work areas and equipment in a neat, orderly manner.
  • Detect and report improper operations, faulty equipment, defective materials, and unusual conditions to the supervisor.
  • Count items and audit for shipping damage.
  • Help prepare kitting packages for assembly production.
  • Verify that the quality of the product sent outbound meets customer expectations
  • Assist other members of the warehouse team when needed.
  • Practice good safety and housekeeping procedures and reports any safety concerns. Perform inbound and outbound order fulfillment procedures using company software.
  • Complies with written policies, procedures, and work instructions.
  • Helps to maintain a clean warehouse and perform other tasks as may be required Additional tasks as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS AND TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Two to three years of inventory control experience
  • Two to three years of warehouse experience
  • Two to three years of various forklift operating experience
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Provides effective support to team members.
  • Able to share knowledge and skills to enhance the teams’ overall productivity and effectiveness.
  • Makes recommendations to the department supervisor/manager for resolving bottlenecks & problems.
  • Exceptional organizational skills.
  • Able to prioritize and multi-task
  • Able to work independently and effectively with little supervision when required,
  • Demonstrates accuracy, thoroughness, effectiveness, and efficiency in carryout out new assignments.
  • Stays on task.
  • Proficient at using computer systems and applications (e.g. MS Word Office, Excel, other IT applications as trained/required) and general internet use.
  • Must be able to prioritize and complete multiple projects in a timely manner.
  • Must be reliable, dependable, and flexible to start early and work late if necessary to fulfill the needs of our customers.
  • Must be able to consistently meet the Company’s expectations of attendance and punctuality.
  • Must be able to work Monday through Friday
  • Must be punctual
  • Must be able to work overtime as required
  • Forklift certification is a plus

WORK ENVIRONMENT and PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • The normal work environment is typical of a warehouse distribution company.
  • PPE requirements: Steel-toed shoes and safety glasses are required when on the warehouse floor as a minimum. Other PPE may be required depending on the area and specific functional needs.
  • The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions: Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
  • The candidate is routinely required to sit, stand, walk, climb stairs, touch, see, and hear.
  • Ability to lift cartons and other packages weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to bend and push/pull heavy pallets.
  • The candidate may occasionally operate machinery.
  • The candidate will operate a variety of forklifts
  • Work independently on repetitive tasks and assist others.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to provide clear and concise feedback.
  • Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized. This factor is important if the amount and kind of climbing required exceeds that required for ordinary locomotion.
  • Feeling: Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.
  • Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
  • Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and having the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and making fine discriminations in sound.
  • Kneeling: Bending legs at the knee to come to rest on the knee or knees.
  • Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires the substantial use of the upper extremities and back muscles.
  • Pulling: Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.
  • Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • Repetitive motions: Making substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Standing: Remaining upright on the feet, particularly for sustained periods of time.

Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.

Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; those activities where detailed or important spoken instructions must be conveyed to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.

Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.

  • Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.

Visual Acuity: The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes. The worker is required to have visual acuity to safely operate heavy equipment and operate forklifts.
