Description

Belmont Charter Network is a family of 5 community schools centered on the central mission to promote the academic, social and emotional well-being of each child. Position Summary: The Building Substitute reports to the School Leadership and is a 10 month position. The Building Substitute is responsible for classroom supervision and lesson implementation during short and long term teacher absences. This role is assigned to one building and provides consistent instruction and classroom management in alignment with building expectations, routines and procedures.

Core Responsibilities: 

  • Instructional Coverage:

    • Provide coverage for teachers and staff members who are absent due to illness, professional development, or other reasons.

    • Follow lesson plans and instructions provided by absent teachers to maintain continuity of instruction.

    • Facilitate student learning by delivering engaging lessons and managing classroom behavior effectively.

  • Student Supervision:

    • Supervise students during classroom activities, transitions, lunch periods, and recess.

    • Ensure student safety and well-being at all times.

    • Implement school policies and procedures consistently.

  • Relationship Building:

    • Build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents/guardians.

    • Collaborate with other educators and support staff to meet the needs of students.

    • Communicate effectively with administrators and colleagues regarding student progress and behavior.

  • Professional Development:

    • Participate in training sessions and professional development opportunities as required.

    • Stay informed about school policies, curriculum updates, and best practices in education.

  • Flexibility and Adaptability:

    • Be prepared to work in various grade levels and subject areas as needed.

    • Adjust teaching strategies and approaches to meet the diverse needs of students.

    • Demonstrate flexibility in scheduling and assignments.

Additional responsibilities: 

  • Encourage parent and community involvement, obtain information for parents when requested, promptly return phone calls and answer emails.

  • Participate in appropriate professional activities and duties as assigned

  • Participate in extracurricular activities such as social activities, sporting activities, clubs and student organizations as directed.

Qualifications


Qualifications: 

Education and Experience: 

  • B.A./B.S. degree from accredited institution;

  • 1-2 years of classroom experience, preferably in urban education;

  • Valid and active Pennsylvania Instructional Certificate (preferred)

  • Experience collaboration with school-based administration and counselors to ensure student success

  • Experience using data to monitor students’ academic and behavioral progress

  • Ascribes to the philosophy that all children can succeed and demonstrates the commitment to do what is necessary to make this a reality

  • Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds
