Objectives: The purpose of this position is to operate various buses in transporting passengers to and from school and related activities, as well as other locations & destinations, and to perform other related work as assigned.

Job Overview: Conditions include operating in inclement weather, heat and humidity (most buses are not air-conditioned), enduring a bumpy ride, and exposure to possible injury due to traffic accidents. Exposure to dust, traffic fumes, and high noise level from both outside traffic as well as from passengers is considerable.

Essential Skills:

• Interest in and empathy for children.
• Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
• Exercise student management through correct use of communication and discipline and report discipline problems to the dispatch office.
• Ability to communicate well with people including clear and understandable verbal skills.
• Writing and arithmetic skill to accurately complete the assigned forms and reports.
• Comply with experience requirements for a Commercial Drivers License,
• Able to read and interpret schedules and forms as well as read and use a map
• Ability to perform emergency bus evacuations and drills for students weighing 50 lbs or more. Possess sufficient strength and agility to move about in a school bus as required to provide assistance to students in evacuating the bus

Other Requirements:

• Maintain good work habits through timeliness and low absenteeism for daily assignment and extra trips.
• Maintain a presentable appearance.
• Properly care for vehicle and its component parts as prescribed by company to minimize wear and to extend its useful life.
• Comply with all safety procedures regarding all aspects of the job title. Attend all assigned workshops, training and/or safety meetings.
• Exercise good judgement in emergency situations and control them in accordance with proper procedure.
• Successfully complete driving skills evaluation.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

This position must submit to substance abuse testing as prescribed by the company and in compliance with applicable state and federal laws. Drivers must have and maintain a satisfactory driving and criminal background that reflects a professional driver and which meets all contractual, local, state, and federal requirements and submit to a physical examination from a company appointed doctor.
