• Starting Salary: $15.45/hour

Objectives: The purpose of this position is to assist the driver in transporting passengers to and from school and related activities, as well as other locations & destinations, and to perform other related work as assigned.

Job Overview: Conditions include operating in inclement weather, heat and humidity (most buses are not air-conditioned), enduring a bumpy ride, and exposure to possible injury due to traffic accidents. Exposure to dust, traffic fumes, and high noise level from both outside traffic as well as from passengers is considerable.

Essential Skills:

• Interest in and empathy for children.
• Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions. Able to communicate well with people including clear and understandable verbal skills.
• Ability to read and interpret schedules and forms as well as read and use a map. Writing and arithmetic skill to accurately complete the assigned forms and reports.
• Ability to maintain effective pupil behavior management control over groups of children.
• Ability to meet physical requirements. Ability to lift and position ambulatory and non ambulatory students weighing 50 lbs or more. Ability to perform an emergency bus evacuations and drills.
• Willing to attend in-service training classes and safety meetings as required by the company.
• Knowledge of equipment on the school bus (e.g. power lifts, child restraint systems, wheelchairs, etc.) Training provided upon hire.

Other Requirements:

• Maintain student discipline
• Help students on and off the bus and help them find seats quickly and keep students seated. Make sure students are properly secured and fastened with seat belts.
• Bus Attendants position themselves in order to observe all students and help the driver with approaching traffic. Assist the driver with backing and blind spots when necessary.
• Monitor student conversation for appropriate content and volume. Assist with documentation of events occurring on bus.
• Be sure students take all personal belongings with them when they leave the bus.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

School Bus Attendants must submit to random testing under this position. Have and maintain a satisfactory criminal background that reflects a professional attendant and which meets all contractual, local, state, and federal requirements.

Pay: From $15.45 per hour

Expected hours: 15 – 20 per week
