BCG X is Hiring a Technical Lead (m/f/x) - MedTech Venture Near Boston, MA

This is a permanent, full-time position with our end client. This is not a position with BCG or BCG X.

Due to the global nature of the role, the East Coast (EDT) is the most ideal time-zone to be located in.

BCG X has been supporting one of the largest medical technology companies globally to build a new global Digital Unit that is tasked with innovating and building new strategic products that will expand on its product offerings and impact across the globe.

As a leading provider of advanced medical technologies, this company has embarked on an exciting journey to become a leader in the digital healthcare industry. This new digital unit will focus on experimenting, incubating, and bringing to market new technological offerings and digital products that will not only enhance our client’s position in the market but spearhead the development of new technologies that will reconceptualize the experience for both patients and medical professionals globally. 

We are now recruiting for this team to take over the work of BCG X and be a core part of the future of a revolutionary digital platform, which integrates data and AI (Artificial Intelligence) to streamline and automate medical workflows and transform the way healthcare professionals provide care.

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Technical Lead to join our team. In this unique role, you will be responsible for leading a team of engineers with expertise in multiple technology stacks, preferably including C , C#, Cloud and DevOps. You will also be actively involved in hands-on development work. This position offers a perfect blend of leadership and technical responsibilities, allowing you to guide the team while staying close to the code.

In this role, you will:

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to establish, maintain and champion an architectural design and vision that can deliver on the objectives set by the Software Client Application and the related roadmap of algorithms.
  • Lead and manage a team of engineers with expertise in various technology stacks, including C , C#, Azure Cloud and DevOps.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and support to team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth.
  • Drive technical excellence and best practices within the team, ensuring high-quality code, efficient development processes, and scalable software solutions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, provide technical expertise, and guide the team in translating requirements into robust software solutions.
  • Lead architectural design discussions and decisions, ensuring alignment with business goals, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of software solutions across different technology stacks, actively participating in hands-on coding and development tasks.
  • Conduct code reviews, provide constructive feedback, and ensure code quality and consistency.
  • Stay up to date with emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices, and guide the team in adopting relevant technologies and methodologies.
  • Act as a technical point of contact for project stakeholders, addressing technical challenges, and providing regular updates on project progress.
  • Balance your time effectively between leadership responsibilities (team management, mentorship, planning) and hands-on development work.
  • Provide insight into development and service issues by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing necessary information.
  • Educate and advocate for principles supporting solution architecture direction.
  • Raise awareness of emerging technologies across teams.
  • Enhance communication and build trusting relationships across teams to align with roadmaps, coordinate initiatives, manage risks and compliance responsibilities.
  • Maintain a clear plan for future improvements to software architecture and supporting processes.
  • Monitor overall development and take necessary actions to be prepared for future scenarios.
  • Maintain current awareness of general technology trends with potential to impact various strategic roadmaps.
  • Recommend upgrades for existing systems and programs.
  • Provide insight into development and service issues by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing necessary information.

You should have:

  • A college or advanced educational degree is not necessarily required for this position. We also value education achieved via work experience, coursework and training, and even self-guided learning.
  • 10 years of experience as a Software Engineer, with expertise in multiple technology stacks, preferably including C , C#, Cloud and DevOps.
  • Low-level Windows/Linux OS (device driver) knowledge a plus.
  • Familiarity with agile methodologies and project management practices. 
  • Hands-on programming experience using relevant languages.
  • Proven experience in a leadership role, leading and managing a team of engineers.
  • Strong technical expertise in software development and a deep understanding of various technology stacks.
  • Broad understanding of technology topics such as (e.g., cloud products and platforms, microservice architectures, hardware, automation, and API integration).
  • Demonstrated ability to drive technical excellence, mentorship, and knowledge sharing within a team.
  • Experience maintaining and developing with CI/CD pipelines.
  • Prior experience in medical device development is a plus
  • Experience with real-time machine vision, computer vision or image processing is considered to be beneficial.

  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing project requirements and priorities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Other Considerations (travel/hours availability, etc.):

  • Strong overlap with ET zone work hours, and some ability to overlap with CET zone work hours
  • Traveling to visit company sites and customers is a part of this job. Expect to travel about once a quarter, with some international travel.
