We are looking for a thoughtful and detail oriented individual to join our Accounting Department as an Accountant. This position handles a variety of accounting tasks, including budgeting, capital credits, and tax preparation process for the Cooperative. As part of BEC’s Accounting Team, an Accountant prepares complete and accurate monthly general ledger and subsidiary ledgers, financial statements and other financial reports following generally accepted accounting practices and procedures, as well as providing support with ongoing projects within both the department and organization.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintains general ledger accounts, including review of account details to ensure accuracy.
  • Compiles, reviews, and invoicing for damaged work orders/claims.
  • Assists with payroll processing as needed.
  • Assists in the completion of the monthly general ledger, Financial and Statistical Report

and all associated subsidiary accounts, schedules, and ledgers.

  • Maintain capital credit records.

o Perform general (annual), estate and special (monthly) retirements.

o Will perform annual escheatment of unclaimed property.

o Verify/provide documentation to the state for retrieval of escheated funds by former members.

  • Compiles the Cooperative's annual budget.
  • Assists in preparation of long-range Financial Forecast annually.
  • Assist Manager with annual audit, and Form 990 preparation.
  • Monthly sales tax reconciliation and filing.
  • Implement financial policies and procedures.
  • Ensures transactions are properly recorded and entered into the computerized accounting

system.

Qualifications and Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or accounting from an accredited college or university. NRECA Cooperative Supervisory or Management Essential Certification programs preferred. Previous experience and knowledge of office and outside procedures, wholesale and retail billing procedures, payment procedures, collection techniques and accounting principles.

Experience

  • Ten years of related business or utility experience is preferred.

  • Detailed knowledge of Excel and other applications within the Microsoft Office Suite of products
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to identify alternative and practical solutions.

  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have valid Texas driver’s license and related insurance.
