Baltimore City Public Schools is Hiring a Staff Associate - Transportation Services Near Baltimore, MD

Serves as liaison between Routing and Scheduling and parents, school administration, Baltimore City Public Schools and vendor bus scheduling staff, taxicab vendors and other interested staff with regards to planning, developing and scheduling efficient routes for students with special needs. Responsible for training school staff, contractor bus personnel in passenger management while transporting students on special needs buses. Serves as liaison between the Transportation office and external parties.

Essential Functions
  • Oversees work of Customer Care Coordinators who receive requests from schools, parents, or other interested persons to arrange particular transportation arrangements for special education students.
  • Determines best transportation approach appropriate to student's IEP, available resources, and requestor's specifications.
  • Supervises assignment of students to cab transportation services. Contacts Baltimore City Public Schools and/or vendor bus providers, and/or taxicab contractor personnel to arrange individualized special education student transportation arrangements. Works with relevant Transportation personnel to arranges for attendants to accompany students on bus or in taxicab as necessary.
  • Responds to and resolves issues with parents, school and/or transport personnel.
  • Responsible for facilitating meetings and training for schools and contractor personnel for school bus incidents.
  • Assists in the conduct of bus route audits.
  • Attends IEP meetings on behalf of the Transportation Department.
  • Assists management in the resolution of operational issues and concerns.
  • Develops and provides formal and as-needed training to Baltimore City Public Schools and vendor transportation personnel regarding transport of special needs students.
  • Coordinates collection of audit-required data from Baltimore City Public Schools transportation and vendor personnel, and prepares required operational reports pertaining to school bus incidents for special need students.
  • Receives and reviews all incident reports pertaining to special needs students.
  • Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school boards policies and the professional standards.

Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Transportation, Management or related field.
  • Three (3) years of related administrative and supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of COMAR as it relates to transportation.
  • Knowledge of the Maryland IEP process.
  • Knowledge of Federal laws in regards to transportation of students with special needs.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, especially in negotiating and persuading others to accommodate special needs
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent written and communication skills.
  • Skilled in the use of computer applications including database management and Microsoft office.
  • Current Maryland Class C driver's license, or an equivalent out-of-state driver's license, and no moving violations.
  • Ability to organize multiple tasks.
  • Ability to direct and train other people.
