    SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST

    (This position is funded for the a three year term )
    QUALIFICATIONS: Regular California credential authorizing service as school psychologist
    REPORTS TO: Administrator as assigned
    FUNCTION: To apply psychoeducational principles and knowledge in the assessment, classification, prevention and treatment/education of children with school-related learning, social and emotional difficulties
    RESPONSBILITY:
    1. Review, select, design and/or implement individual assessment plans
    a) Conduct observations of child in school and/or home and present descriptions of conditions which affect student’s learning, emotional and/or social development
    b) Assist parents, teachers and students in developing and/or implementing assessment methods (e.g. criterion-referenced, observation and others) on which psycho-educational decisions will be based
    c) Diagnose student’s social, emotional and learning difficulties
    2. Synthesize and interpret assessment data to develop verbal and written reports which answer referral question(s), explain relationship of data to decisions made, help determine educational placement and provide recommendations to assist child
    3. Participate in School Guidance Team meetings and Individual Education Program meetings, and provide recommendations about student needs to teachers, aides, principals, counselors, parents and outside agencies
    a) Provide inservice to teachers, parents, aides, principals and counselors to include both preventive and remedial psychological applications
    4. Provide individual and/or group psychological interventions to assist in remediating social, emotional and/or learning problems
    a) Provide clear definitions of target behaviors, provide behavioral objectives and design interventions which others implement
    b) Conduct follow-up activities
    AUTHORITY:
    1. To contact, observe and interact with students, teachers and parents
    2. To recommend most appropriate educational placement, program and/or services
    3. To involve significant others in development of appropriate educational plans
    4. To implement, advise and/or utilize psychological intervention strategies
    SALARY: $124,225 - $150,657 annually (199 days) (max. salary includes all longevity and educational stipends)
    EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the District’s “Improvement of Professional Services” handbook, Board Policies and Procedures and consistent with collective bargaining agreements when applicable

    Copies of required certificates, transcripts or diplomas may be submitted with application. District may require that originals be presented for verification prior to employment. Please check with Human Resources regarding acceptable documents. For positions requiring college course work official transcripts will be required upon employment.
    It is the applicant’s responsibility to meet all application requirements and supply copies of all required documents. A separate set of paperwork is required for each application submitted. All application materials submitted become the property of Bakersfield City School District.
    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
    Some positions may require proof of privately owned automobile insurance and the possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle operator’s license. Fingerprint clearance by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the California Department of Justice is a condition of appointment after all other required job conditions have been met. Must present verification of completion of Child Abuse Mandated Reporter training or obtain verification within six (6) weeks of hire and annually thereafter, as required by the California Child Abuse Neglect Reporting Act.
