As a Manager in Training (MIT), this position is designed to create a well-rounded training experience encompassing all areas of store leadership responsibility. The MIT will fill open supervisor, assistant manager and manager roles creating bench strength for the entire retail division. The MIT will assist the store manager in operation of the entire store and have the ability to efficiently run the store in their absence.

POSITION DUTIES:

• Availability for short and long term assignments in all retail locations filling open positions in the gift/floral departments, hard goods and the garden center and training & transitioning replacement.
• Assist in managing the entire store operation, directly supervise the retail operations as assigned by the Store Manager.
• Provide excellent customer service and be a role model to others.
• Resolve customer concerns and problems in a fair/equitable manner and ensure satisfaction.
• Hire, train, motivate, and discipline staff.
• Provide daily supervision and work direction through a participative management style by encouraging a teamwork environment to meet customer needs.
• Perform required administrative functions on a timely basis: sales/labor reports, schedules, reviews, timecards and assist with the budget and inventory planning.
• Motivate and solve employee relation concerns while supporting the Store Manager and company policies and procedures.
• Navigate a windows base POS system where all transactions, including deliveries and transfers, are swiftly and accurately performed and resolve POS or PC problems.
• Train complex procedures to seasonal staff annually and adjust to large seasonal changes in business activities.
• Anticipate and maintain stock levels to support store sales expectations and adjust to changes in merchandising program. Actively participate in merchandising, ordering, stocking, display, and inventory control.
• Plan and execute operational and staffing needs to effectively run the store and ensure product quality is maintained to a high standard.
• Manage the entire stores operation in absence of Store Manager.
• Ensure physical cleanliness and maintenance of the store.
• Other duties as assigned by the Store Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum 3 years’ experience in supervisory or management capacity.
• Associates degree in Horticulture, or related post-secondary education.
• Must be willing to work from any Bachman’s retail store location.
• Demonstrated ability to interact with and build relationship with customers and staff.
• Strong writing and verbal communication skills.
• Technical knowledge including POS systems, Window’s, and Excel.
• Knowledge of merchandise and display.
• Ability to flex and display initiative in a short amount of time.
• Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail environments.
• High energy level, with the ability to provide strong leadership, train, delegate, and motivate staff.
• Ability to work a flexible work schedule, including nights, weekends, and increased seasonal/holiday hours.
• Experience working in multi-unit setting a plus.
