Axient is Hiring a Database Administrator Near Huntsville, AL

Overview

Axient is currently seeking a qualified Database Administrator to support Reliability Improvement thru Failure Identification and Reporting in Huntsville, AL.

Responsibilities

This position will act as a Oracle DBA, ProgreSQL DBA, AWS RDS administrator and PL/SQL Developer in fast paced work environment as a contributing member in a team that develops software for the DoD. As member of this team this position will require you to work in an office environment with other team members assisting with requiements gathering, design, development and testing of software.

Duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Creating and maintaining database instances required for development, testing, and production usage on physical servers as well as Amazon Web Services instances.
  • Following best practices in areas of Oracle & ProgreSQL product configuration, optimization, maintainability, security and scalability.
  • Perform daily monitoring of database status, user and system processes, resource utilization and wait events, alert logs, backup results, disk space, etc.
  • Proactively optimize the database instances as needed.
  • Perform database application coding to create and maintain database procedures, packages, triggers, as well as scripts for RMAN, schema change implementation, etc.
  • Install new versions of the Oracle RDBMS and its tools and any other tools that access the Oracle database.
  • Plan and implement backup and recovery of the database.
  • Control migrations of database instance changes, schema changes, and essential reference/configuration data changes through the development life cycle.
  • Implement and enforce security for all databases.
  • Perform database reorganizations as required to assist performance and ensure maximum database availability.
  • Develop standards to ensure that all application design and code is produced with proper integrity, security and performance.
  • Evaluate Oracle releases, tools and third party products to ensure that the site is running the products that are most appropriate.
  • Assist in planning with the Application Developers and System Administrators to ensure that any new product usage or release upgrade takes place with minimal impact.
  • Provide technical support to application development teams.
  • Enforce and maintain database constraints to ensure integrity of the database.
  • Administer all database objects, including tables, indexes, views, sequences, packages and procedures.
  • Assist with impact analysis of any changes made to the database.
  • Troubleshoot issues regarding the databases, applications and development tools.
  • Create new database users as required.
  • Manage shared resource utilization of applications and co-resident database instances.
  • Responsible for the physical design of the database.
  • Provide project management with strategic database direction options and capabilities.
  • Perform SQL and PL/SQL coding as needed to special reports, requests for special analysis, data error correction.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in MIS, Computer Science, or related discipline.
  • Minimum of 10 years DBA experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of SQL and PL/SQL experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with ProgreSQL is preferred.
  • Deep experience tuning SQL for Software Developers.
  • Experience with Oracle SQL Developer and/or TOAD software (with DBA module).
  • Working knowledge of Linux/Unix environment.
  • Strong analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong relational database design and modeling skills.
  • Strong mentoring skills to enhance the knowledgebase and best practices of the software development team.
  • Advanced understanding of relational databases required
  • Assist developers as needed in the design and development of database schema/instance objects.
  • Assist developers as needed in the development of application database code and scripts for deployment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Requirements:

  • DoD IAT Level II or higher certifications preferred (Network , Security , CISSP, etc.)

Must meet applicable COVID safety requirements and protocols
