FUNCTION DEFINITION

The Manufacturing Director reports to the VP of Industrial Operations with periodic responsibilities to major projects steering committees. This position is responsible for safely executing production operation, project activities, continuous improvement, technology transfer and other related functions in the Industrial BD of Axens NA. The Manufacturing Director is located in Houston, but the responsibilities may involve periods on-site in Axens NA manufacturing sites in Willow Island, WV, Savannah, GA , St Louis MO and Calvert City, KY.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering or related technical field.
  • Fifteen to twenty years’ experience in manufacturing in technical or management positions with outstanding safety record and demonstrated commitment to balance budget, schedule and HSE aspects in all phase of projects.
  • Good oral and written communication skills in English (French a plus).
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships in a multi-functional, multi-cultural organization.
  • Working knowledge of SAP.
  • Familiarity with or exposure to ISO quality systems and statistical methods.
  • Willingness to travel frequently and occasionally spend extended periods at manufacturing sites.
FUNCTIONS

Manufacturing Management

  • Work with HSE manager to implement and enforce safety protocols to maintain a safe working environment for employees and compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Direct day-to-day operations in the manufacturing facility to ensure efficient production, quality control, and timely delivery of products.
  • Manage human resources, equipment, and materials to optimize production processes and minimize costs.
  • Develop and manage budgets for manufacturing operations and implementing cost-saving measures where possible.
  • Leading and motivating manufacturing teams to achieve production goals, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, and providing training and development opportunities for staff.

Decarbonisation Management (50% GHG reduction by 2030)

  • Study and define possible paths to plant decarbonisation in line with company objectives, provide recommendation to steering committee.
  • Identify and mobilize necessary resources for key decarbonisation projects of industrial processes.
  • Manage/oversee key project schedules and costs
  • Oversee interface with third party resources, including outside engineering companies.
  • Coordinate technology selection when necessary.
  • Report periodically to Axens leadership on projects status.
  • Interface with manufacturing sites to insure appropriate input, training and start up.

Major Project Management

  • Identify and mobilize necessary resources for key manufacturing projects.
  • Manage key project schedules and costs
  • Oversee interface with third party resources, including outside engineering companies.
  • Coordinate technology selection when necessary.
  • Report periodically to Axens management on projects status.
  • Interface with manufacturing sites to insure appropriate input, training and start up.

Technology Transfer Support

  • Insure adequate technical exchange regarding equipment and process technology between Axens NA, SA and CSA manufacturing sites.
  • Provide support and oversight to new product introductions.

Continuous Improvement

  • Drive efforts to continuously improve quality, costs, productivity and reliability at NA manufacturing sites.
  • Identify investment opportunities for cost savings, process improvement, or reliability improvement.
  • Help develop investment plans according to Axens strategic plans.
  • Identify and where appropriate support implementation of continuous improvement methodologies, such as six Sigma, 5S, Lean or others as part of AXIIS corporate project.

QHSE REQUIREMENTS

Quality :

  • Take responsibility for the sustainability of Axens and ensuring quality performance
  • Report any and all quality related issues or non-conformities to your manager
  • Maintain awareness, proactively participate and support all Axens policies for quality management
  • Assist in the continual improvement of an effective Integrated Management System complying with the requirements of ISO 9001:2015
  • Assist in achieving Site, Department, Regional and Global Quality Management Program goals and objectives.

Health and Safety:

  • Take responsibility for the health and safety of self and others
  • Report any and all health and safety incidents to your manager
  • Maintain awareness, proactively participate and support all Axens policies and objectives regarding health and safety
  • Assist in the continual improvement of an effective Integrated Management System complying with the requirements of ISO 45001:2018
  • Assist in achieving Site, Departmental, Regional and Global Health and Safety goals and objectives

Environmental:

  • Take responsibility for the sustainability of Axens and protecting the environment
  • Report any and all environmental concerns or incidents to your manager
  • Maintain awareness, proactively participate and support all Axens policies regarding environmental protection
  • Assist in the continual improvement of an effective Integrated Management System complying with the requirements of ISO 14001:2015
  • Assist in achieving Site, Departmental, Regional and Global Environmental Management Program goals and objectives
