Job Description:
Axalta Coating Systems’ Leadership recognizes the business value of introducing new talent into the organization, on an ongoing basis. Within technology, the Global Innovation Center has become the central hub for our global research, product development, and technology initiatives where we develop and deliver the most innovative coatings products in the world. A key to this innovation is our Lab Technicians, who either support our color technology, polymer and formulation chemistry, or application knowledge. Today, we employ a dynamic team of Lab Technicians and as we continue to grow, we plan on hiring future technicians in 2022.
The Research and Development Laboratory Technician provides support to the Chemists / Engineers in the research and development process leading to the creation of coating products.
  • Assist in the design of experiments, conduct those experiments independently and collect, summarize and present the resulting data.
  • Troubleshoot problems as they arise in the laboratory, collaborate with research investigators when erroneous or unexpected results occur.
  • Identify and suggest improvements in methods.
  • Producing research experimental results, or information/data management results, or assembling and configuring of small/pilot scale equipment and control systems utilizing a variety of techniques.
  • Documenting findings and communicating results.
  • Makes suggestions on path forward and contributes to formulating work plans and managing daily workflow.
  • Inspects and performs routine maintenance on equipment used to conduct experiments at the designated work location.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory of chemicals and/or supplies necessary for the completion of experiments at work location.
  • Maintain a safe working environment.
  • Preparation and evaluation of coating formulations including electro-coat, primer, topcoat and clear coat using mixing equipment and various spray equipment.
  • Accurately running and recording test results for all coatings formulations.
  • Interpretation and communication of test results using computer based systems.
  • Documentation of experimental test results using computer programs such as Word, Excel.
  • Safely handle, categorize and dispose of chemicals on a routine basis.
  • Handling multiple tasks under strict time constraints.
Qualifications
  • A 2 year degree from a college or technical school with at least three years of in an industrial laboratory environment, or a 4 year degree in a physical or life science.
  • Laboratory experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong interest in hands-on work to ensure a good understanding of the products.
  • Effective problem solver.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills to be able to work well in both self-managed and team environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
