Avalon Park Independent Living is Hiring a Cook Near Cottleville, MO

Covenant Ventures is growing and looking to add to our culinary team! The Cook is responsible for meal preparation and delivery under the guidance and direction of the Executive Chef. The starting pay range being offered is $17 - $19 / hour depending on experience.

Essential Functions:

  • Prepare soups, stocks, and sauces; boils, braises and roasts items as directed by the Executive Chef.
  • Prepares and serves steamed, fried, grilled, sauteed and baked items as directed by the Executive Chef.
  • Prepares all food served.
  • Prepares special diets, as required.
  • Plans food preparation to coincide with mealtimes.
  • Monitors and maintains food for quality, temperature, and appearance.
  • Maintains a safe and clean work environment.
  • Assists is the delivery of meals, and cleaning of dishes/pans, etc. used in preparation and serving.
  • Communicates with residents, families, visitors, and team-members in a positive manner.

Job Qualifications/Requirements

  • Understands and proficient in basic cooking skills.
  • Able to plan and organize menus.
  • Able to follow recipes, instructions, and quality standards.
  • Basis kitchen and kitchen equipment operation knowledge
  • Ability to be on-call for emergencies.
  • Able to work in harmony with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and understand English, understand measurements and follow oral and written directions.

Education/Experience

  • High School diploma and 2 years of cooking experience in hotel, restaurant, congregate living, club, or similar setting
  • Ability to prioritize demands and make sound decisions.
  • Possess a strong sense of urgency.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Working Environment/Physical Requirements

  • Requires driving a vehicle to outside sources and other locations during all seasons.
  • Requires ability to lift to 50 pounds frequently.
  • Standing for 90 – 100% of work shift
  • Exposure to heat, cold, wet, and dirty floor and potential of minor cuts and burns.
