Job Summary

Under direction of the Production Manager, responsible for managing production operations and production personnel during assigned shift, including plant clean up. Responsible for all plant personnel and activities outside of normal business hours to include production, bagging, loading, shipping, laboratory, QCR, Plant Maintenance and Vehicle Maintenance.

Essential Functions

1. Maintains accountability for the required production rate while maintaining high quality quicklime and hydrate production in a cost-effective manner. Includes production operations involving lime kilns, hydrators, pulverizing equipment, and other peripheral/related equipment and processes.
2. Supervises plant personnel and resources, in accordance with established safety and production guidelines and policies, to ensure efficient production, storage, and loading of a high-quality product, based on present and projected rates and customer needs.
3. Responsible for current production testing on the Kiln Deck using the LECO testing equipment, as well as evaluation of the Quality Lab results to ensure that product is directed to specified storage bins in accordance with established guidelines and policies, based on product requirements and customer needs.
4. Ensures that all production and axial (What does this mean) equipment are well maintained in good working condition and are operated properly, safely and efficiently; inspects equipment; writes work orders and follows up as needed.
5. Maintains all plant areas and equipment in a clean and safe manner; secures a hazard-free work environment for employees.
6. Supervises and ensures the safety and well-being of all employees placed under the Production Supervisor's control or supervision, and all other employees cleaning and maintaining plant equipment including employees of other departments and outside contractors.
7. Conducts safety audits of work areas; audits and workplace and equipment inspection reports; writes work orders to make eliminate hazards and improve the safety of working conditions.
8. Responsible for safety and security of all personnel on the Company property after normal business hours, including employees of other departments.
9. Responsible for the safe and proper operation of all mobile equipment used by employees supervised, including proper mobile equipment training, operation, inspection, cleaning, reporting of maintenance repair needs, and lock out tag out when equipment has a safety defect.
10. Ensures safety training of employees, including Weekly Safety Meetings and other Safety Meetings and trainings required or recommended by Management.
11. Keeps Production Manager informed on a timely basis of all interruptions in the phases of plant operation, both verbally and in writing. For example, interruptions in production or problems which might cause delays in meeting customer requirements must be communicated immediately, to be followed by a written report.

1. Communicates on a timely basis and coordinates activities with Sales, Lab, Shipping, and Maintenance departments as necessary to maintain efficiencies.
2. Accomplishes documentation and reporting of all pertinent information prior to leaving work on scheduled due dates, in accordance with established guidelines and policies.
3. Ensures compliance with all company policies and guidelines, directives, verbal orders, technical instructions, and federal and state rules and regulations.
4. Trains employees on job and safety requirements; maintains documentation of employees' training, performance, qualifications in job duties and responsibilities, and absences; communicates company policies, guidelines, and directive.
5. Develops work group into a team that co-operates, communicates, and improves its effectiveness and efficiency according to quality principles and standards.
6. Displays strong leadership by setting and maintaining standards of high performance, integrity, and responsibility both personally and among work group members.
7. Works in a team with other Supervisors and Managers to continuously improve Company success according to quality principles and standards.
8. Attends in-house and outside training programs to improve technical, professional, and managerial skills.
9. Maintains positive and effective relationship with all business contacts inside and outside the Company.
10. Complies with all environmental requirements and takes positive steps to improve the plant environment for employees and the general public.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

1. Responsible for supervision of the cleaning of various product bins, including the use of Cardox explosive material when appropriate.
2. Performs other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

1. A high school diploma or equivalent; 2 years’ college or technical training preferred.
2. Minimum of one year of experience in a supervisory/managerial position over 6 or more employees; track record of effectiveness as a supervisor and leader.
3. Minimum 3 years as a Kiln Operator and/or Helper in a Cement or Lime plant.
4. Adequate understanding of mechanical and electrical maintenance requirements for stationary production equipment required, in order to make maintenance requests.
5. Experience in reading and using schematics and blue prints preferred.
6. Experience in writing reports and communicating effectively by email.
7. Experience with maintaining database entries and running reports and analyses.
8. Competency, or ability to develop competency, in Microsoft software including Word and Excel skills.
9. Ability to prioritize, assign, and supervise tasks to their timely completion.
10. Ability to be a team player while demonstrating good tact, diplomacy, and the ability to work well with superiors, co-workers, subordinates, other departments.
11. Must be certified as a Visible Emission Reader within 6 months of acquiring position.
12. Must maintain a Certificate of training in First Aid, CPR & AED; must acquire such certification within 3 months of hire if not certified at time of hire.
13. Ability to pass ATF clearance requirements preferred.
14. Strong verbal and written English communication skills.
15. Must present and maintain a pleasant and professional appearance.
16. Reliable transportation, and home telephone, or other means of reliable contact.

17. Ability to perform physical work, climb, and work at heights.

18. Ability to perform job duties safely.

19. Availably to work nights and weekends on a standard and regular basis; ability to work the day shift as necessary for training and on a relief basis as needed.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in all areas of the plant to provide constant supervision and inspection of plant operations, includes but is not limited to; exposure to all weather conditions, noise, dust, and extreme heat due to lime production process; exerts physical effort in walking, climbing, stooping, bending, carrying and using various tools.
