Austin Achieve Public Schools is Hiring a Child Nutrition Director Near Austin, TX

Austin Achieve Public Schools is an open-enrollment public charter school preparing Austin youth to attend and excel at top universities.

The Child Nutrition Department strives to serve AAPS scholars with healthy and nutritious meals that they like to eat, with enough time for them to enjoy.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Child Nutrition Operations

  • Direct and manage the district’s child nutrition programs.
  • Ensure menus that meet established nutritional requirements for students.
  • Establish and direct the processes to follow with the United States Department of Agriculture and Texas Education Agency (USDA) guidelines for meal eligibility and reimbursement of federal funds.
  • Work cooperatively with campus assistant principals to create lunch schedules and resolve staff issues.
  • Develop and maintain written department procedures for all child nutrition operations.


Policy, Reports, and Law

  • Ensure the department complies with federal and state law, State Board of Education rules, and board policy in the child nutrition area.
  • Ensure that all physical and computerized reports are compiled, maintained, and filed properly.
  • Ensure all necessary data is submitted for the processing of child nutrition payroll.


Budget and Inventory

  • Manage the child nutrition budget and ensure effective allocation of resources while maintaining a prudent and responsible approach towards fund management.
  • Based on the documented program requirements, meticulously compile budgets and cost estimates to facilitate informed decision-making and efficient allocation of resources.
  • Develop a cost-effective and efficient system for procuring food that meets federal procurement and Texas Education Agency (TEA) standards.
  • To maintain financial integrity and promote transparency in our procurement processes, all purchase orders and bids must comply with the budgetary limitations and district policies.
  • Approve invoices and purchase orders for the child nutrition department to the finance department.
  • Recommend disposal of obsolete equipment and replace equipment as necessary.


Personnel Management

  • Plan and direct inventory and stock control programs for equipment and supplies.
  • Prepare, review, and revise job descriptions in the child nutrition department.
  • Develop training options and improvement plans to ensure exemplary operation in the child nutrition area.
  • Evaluate the job performance of employees to ensure effectiveness.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise personnel and make sound recommendations about personnel placement, transfer, retention, and dismissal.


Safety

  • Ensure that measures are in place and operating to protect food, supplies, and equipment in school cafeterias, lunchrooms, and storage.
  • Maintain safety standards conforming to federal, state, and insurance regulations and develop a preventive safety program.


Others

  • Establishes procedures and policies for risk management.
  • Attend professional growth activities to keep abreast of innovative techniques for child nutrition operations.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Model positive and healthy character traits and habits per the organization's culture.
    • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent educational experience, with academic major in specific areas;* OR Bachelor’s degree in any academic major, and State-recognized certificate for school nutrition directors; OR Bachelor’s degree in any academic major, and at least 1 year of relevant school nutrition programs experience; OR Associate’s degree or equivalent educational experience, with academic major in specific areas,* and at least 1 year of relevant school nutrition programs experience; OR High school diploma (or GED) and at least three years of relevant experience in school nutrition programs.
    • At least 15 hours of annual continuing education/training. Includes topics such as:
    • Administrative practices (including training in application, certification, verification, meal counting, and meal claiming procedures).
    • The identification of reimbursable meals at the point of service.
    • Nutrition, health, and safety standards.
    • Other topics, as specified by FNS.
    • At least 8 hours of food safety training is required either not more than 5 years before their starting date or completed within 30 days of the employee’s start date.
    • Spanish fluency in reading, writing, and speaking
    • Possess advanced Microsoft and G Suite skills, proficiency with Mac/Apple products preferred
    • Three to five years of experience, preferably in a school environment.
    • Preferably experience with Skyward, PrimeroEdge, SchoolRunner, and Ascender.
