Atlantic Council is Hiring a Program Assistant, Eurasia Center Near Washington, DC

The Atlantic Council seeks a highly motivated, organized, collegial, and creative individual to serve as a full-time Program Assistant in its Eurasia Center. The Program Assistant will support the Eurasia Center’s programming activities related to Ukraine, Russia, and the wider region, with an active role in organizing the Center’s conferences and events and supporting its senior director.

The core of the Eurasia Center’s focus is its Ukraine work, housed under the Ukraine in Europe Initiative, which it launched in response to the dramatic events of the Euromaidan Revolution. The Initiative has worked to galvanize international support for an independent Ukraine within secure borders whose people will determine their own future. The Eurasia Center also has an extensive body of work on Russia and other countries of Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, and Central Asia. Its portfolio includes frequent virtual, domestic, and international conferences and events. The Center’s experts and partners regularly publish reports and brief US and European policymakers.

The ideal candidate will communicate effectively and enjoy a fluid, international environment. The position requires a superior ability to multitask with a record of supporting programs and events, excellent communication and organizational skills, strong writing abilities, attention to detail, a positive attitude, and a desire to grow with the team. Proficiency in Russian or Ukrainian is preferred.

The Program Assistant will take an active role in organizing the Center’s conferences and events. They will work with the Deputy Director to provide day-to-day administrative, financial, and other support to the program. This includes managing the Senior Director’s calendar and financial reporting, drafting miscellaneous internal and external materials, and executing event preparations.

The Program Assistant will report to the senior director of the Eurasia Center, and will work closely with the Deputy Director and the Center’s Resident Fellow on event organization.

This position is based in our Washington, DC, headquarters on a hybrid schedule. Pay is commensurate with experience, education, and organizational equity, with offers starting at $50,000. Applications submitted by May 24, 2024, will be prioritized for consideration.

Key responsibilities

  • With the Deputy Director, organize, support, and execute in-person, hybrid, and virtual events including major, multi-day conferences and smaller public and private events, both domestic and abroad;
  • Draft, proofread, edit, and as needed, publish internal and external materials and correspondence including the UkraineAlert blog, speaker invitations, event materials, briefing memos, proposals, and other documents necessary for the implementation of program activities;
  • Create promotional and informational graphics for social, digital, and print media use;
  • Work closely with the Eurasia Center team, broader Atlantic Council staff, and various external partners to coordinate and implement tasks;
  • Provide executive assistance by managing the Senior Director’s calendar and expenses, scheduling calls, meetings, travel, and tracking deadlines;
  • Draft, proofread, edit, and as needed, publish internal and external materials and correspondence including speaker invitations, event materials, briefing memos, gift agreements, proposals, and other documents necessary for the implementation of program activities;
  • Support in implementing the communications and promotion strategy around core events and programming, including social media promotion, multimedia, website management, and follow-up.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field required;
  • 1 or more years of relevant work experience preferred. Have an understanding of the Eurasia Center’s mission, with a strong interest in the Eurasia region, particularly with familiarity with Ukraine and/or Russia;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to write and edit clearly under tight deadlines;
  • Demonstrated ability in project management and event coordination with exceptional attention to detail and ability to multi-task in a time-sensitive environment;
  • Competence in administrative duties and providing scheduling assistance across various time zones;
  • Professional presence, including the ability to effectively represent the Atlantic Council with external constituencies, such as board members, donors, senior government officials, and business leaders;
  • Willingness to respond to an evolving set of priorities, with the ability to work irregular hours at times, and occasional international travel;
  • Ability to handle sensitive information, meet deadlines, and maintain calm under pressure;
  • Be flexible, creative, solution-driven, and positive in approaching challenges and problems;
  • Proficiency in Russian and/or Ukrainian language preferred.
