Description

The Atlantic Council seeks a talented, motivated, and creative program assistant to support the work of the Middle East Programs’ N7 Initiative. The candidate will have demonstrated skills in managing complex logistics and high-level events. The program assistant will work closely with the N7 Initiative’s Director on all aspects of the Atlantic Council’s Middle East regional integration work. Interest in and experience with people-to-people dialogues, international events, and the Middle East is a plus.

The ideal candidate will be an excellent organizer and communicator and will have demonstrable administrative and communication experience. The program assistant will be involved in the implementation of regional and thematic projects conducted by N7. They will help the management of complex high-level DC-based and international events in the Middle East, including coordinating venues and travel, managing communications with participants, and serving as the point person for all logistics and troubleshooting.

The program assistant will also assist in the publication process of articles and papers and will be encouraged to engage in their own research and publishing in addition to their cooperative assignments.

A successful candidate must communicate effectively and enjoy dynamic teamwork. The position requires a superior ability to multitask with a record of coordinating projects and events, excellent administrative and writing skills, attention to detail, and a positive attitude. Our ideal candidate will have experience producing in-person and virtual events with high-level speakers, key donors, and constituencies. The position is based in our Washington, DC, headquarters on a hybrid schedule, with opportunities for travel in the region and some flexibility for virtual work.

Pay is commensurate with experience, education, and organizational equity, with offers starting at $50,000. Applications submitted by April 1, 2024, will be prioritized for consideration.

Job responsibilities:

  • Provide operational, logistical, and administrative support for regionally based high-level events and projects:
    • Help maintain relationships with event venues to secure meeting spaces, accommodations, and catering/meals.
    • Assist with international travel coordination and arrangements for local travel and special activities during international events.
    • Help field logistical queries from participants, and for arrivals, departures, security measures, guest management, and AV coordination.
  • Oversee and execute in-person and virtual events, including private roundtables and public events.  
  • Help draft event materials such as event invitations, talking points, agenda, briefing materials, etc.
  • Coordinate with nonresident fellows their production of articles, papers, and other analysis related to the region.
  • Prepare specific comms projects for N7 events and projects, including, social media, email marketing, and other creative dissemination and engagement tactics.
  • Work closely with the Atlantic Council publications team to manage the editing process of articles and papers.
  • Manage team calendars and meeting schedules through virtual and in-person settings as appropriate.
  • Conduct research as necessary.
  • Support other Middle East Program activities as appropriate.

Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, such as Middle East affairs, international affairs, or security studies. Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Approximately 1-2 years of relevant work experience.
  • Excellent organizational, logistical, and administrative skills.
  • Strong communication skills - candidate must be able to communicate and interact with all levels of staff and diplomatic officials.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Experience with WordPress and Marketo highly desired.
  • Research and writing skills in the areas of international relations.
  • Demonstrated interest in the Middle East, especially Israel and the Gulf states, is a plus.
  • Experience living, studying or working in the MENA region is highly desired, as is proficiency in a Middle Eastern language.
