Saginaw Psychological Services, Inc. is Hiring an Accounting Clerk Near Saginaw, MI

POSITION TITLE: Accounting Clerk

RESPONSIBLE TO: Direct Supervisor

DEPARTMENT/SITE: Finance / Saginaw

STATUS: Exempt; Salaried

All the criteria-based duties and standards within this document will be performed according to established policies, procedures, and guidelines within the department/site and SPSI.

JOB SUMMARY

The primary objective for the Accounting Clerk is to provide assistance in maintaining SPSI’s overall Finance Department workload; including Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable and accurate and timely upkeep of company accounting records. Billing workloads may also be included as needed.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

1. Maintains the integrity and confidentiality of clients and employees record information as well as maintain SPSI’s code of ethics.

2. Assists with preparation of billable services; generates and submits invoices as appropriate.

3. Receives and verifies expense reports; reconciles expense and other financial reports with account balances and other office records.

o Records numerical and financial data to produce financial records.

o Ensures financial data is entered correctly and accurately.

4. Enters journal entries to debit and credit the company’s accounts.

5. Assists with accounting records and ledgers by reconciling monthly statements and transactions.

6. Generates accounting and audit reports for cash receipts, accounts payable and receivable, expenditures, and profits and losses.

7. Balance Sheet and Profit / Loss Reporting Preparation and submission.

8. Facilitates payment of vendors, which may include verification of federal ID numbers, reviewing purchase orders, and resolving discrepancies.

9. Ensures outstanding obligations are credited upon payment, identifies discount opportunities, and issues purchase order amendments or stop-payment orders as needed.

10. Records entry of, verifies documentation for, and distributes petty cash.

11. Assist in the development of strategic plans for financial activity.

12. Attend all supervision, and staff development activities as scheduled. Assist with initiatives and goals of the agency strategic plan.

13. Abides by company rules, policies/procedures. Will identify any areas of concern and discuss new approaches and ideas. Will expect self and co-workers to maintain highest standards of professional ethics and will immediately report any concerns.

14. Works closely with the Operations Director to prepare or control inventory and operational budgets.

15. Research grant opportunities available for the organization.

16. Other tasks as assigned.

MARGINAL JOB DUTIES

1. Reliable in carrying out assignments conscientiously and work to improve skills in areas where needs are identified.

2. Formulate strategic and operational objective as needed.

3. Implement and manage operational plans as needed.

4. Supports the CEO and leadership team’s vision and process ideas.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration required.
  • Certified Accounts Payable Professional (CAPP) certification preferred.

LICENSURE: Valid driver’s license.

EXPERIENCE: At least two years of experience in accounting preferred.

SKILLS

1. Self-motivated and the ability to handle unforeseen problems. Does not wait to be told what to do, can work independently.

2. Can be relied upon to work steadily and effectively and maintain punctuality.

3. Ability to use accounting software to record, store, and analyze financial data.

4. Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and financial data analysis.

5. Exceptional organizational skills.

6. Familiarity with computer systems and IT functions of business such as quick books.

7. Aptitude in resolving issues and conflicts.

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS

1. Must possess effective communication skills and act as a representative of SPSI and adhering to its mission, vision, and values. This includes external representation of local agencies.

2. Continually strives for effective relationships with staff and management.

3. Expect self and co-workers to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics.

4. Attention to detail, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

5. Work as a team member to improve the various services offered by the agency, sharing information about cutting edge practices or identifying gaps and needs in service.

PHYSICAL EFFORTS: Medium; must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

HOURS OF WORK: Full-time, flexible and varied. Some evenings and weekends may be required.

TRAVEL: Reliable transportation is required. Local travel throughout service area is required with possible occasional travel between SPSI locations. Some out of service area travel may also be required. Reimbursement in accordance with SPSI policy.
