Asian Americans for Equality, Inc. is Hiring a Senior Accountant, Property Management Near New York, NY

Stanton Norfolk, Inc., manages the leasing and maintenance of more than 900 units of affordable housing, and 100 units of commercial and community facility spaces in almost 50 buildings in neighborhoods throughout New York City, including Lower Manhattan and Far Rockaways, Queens.

Summary:

The Senior Accountant is the staff member responsible for maintaining books and records of General Ledger, Account Payable and Account Receivable of the managed properties under the supervision of Accounting Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Data gathering and validation – Directing Junior Accountants, providing data quality improvement suggestions, and managing data initiatives directly or through the guidance of other Fiscal or cross functional areas.
  • System controls -Yardi GL 
  • Maintain and update chart of accounts, system access rights and other system requirements for properties into the Senior Accountant’s assigned real estate portfolio and monitor the system integrity for Fiscal asset management team.Provide guidance to Junior Accountant on system integrity and consistent maintenance across all real estate portfolios.
  • Process Controls
  • System maintenance -Timely processing of change requests (new, change, terminated GL Accounts and mappings) for the Senior Accountant’s assigned real estate portfolio and approve the change request of the Junior Accountant.
  • Monthly / Quarterly / Annual closing process - Prepare preliminary analysis for journal entries, supporting documentation and justification for the entries to Yardi for the Manager Accountant or above review and approval.
  • Account reconciliations - Preparing account balances and activities reconciliations (e.g., cash accounts, receivables, payables, fixed assets, prepaids) for the Senior Accountant’s assigned real estate portfolio and then submit the reconciliations for Manager Accountant or above review and approval. 
  • Reporting and Analysis
  • Annual financial statement independent auditor review - Prepare preliminary analysis for journal entries, supporting documentation and justification for the entries to Yardi for the Manager Accountant or above review and approval related to the annual financial close; and assist with the year-end financial statement preparation and supporting schedules and analysis in support for the independent auditors. More complex analysis, reviews and responsibilities are expected from the Senior Accountant, including providing supervision and guidance to the Junior Accountant
  • Property management reporting – for the Senior Accountant’s assigned more complex real estate portfolio:
  • Prepare preliminary monthly/ quarterly/ annual financial and non-financial reports and analysis (e.g., rent billing and Operating Expense/Real Estate/Tax/Utility true up for Senior Accountant or above review and approval. 
  • Assist in preparation of a property’s annual operating budget. 
  • Support the onsite Property Managers and other site personnel in all aspects of financial reporting. 
  • Monitor tenant receivables to ensure amounts due are paid on a timely basis. 
  • Support management office personnel (Leasing Coordinator, Construction Manager, Asset Management, etc.) to maintain the integrity of the accounting system and to facilitate their financial reporting requirements. 
  • Prepare various reporting (e.g., tax returns, financial statements) to Regulatory Agencies and real estate entities for Manager Accountant or above review and approval. 
  • Perform ad hoc requests that arise from time to time - mostly from real estate or fiscal management

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Thorough experience and knowledge of real estate tax and insurance and trade functions
  • A strong background with preparing monthly and quarterly property bill backs
  • Experience working with all aspects of Accounts Payable/Receivable
  • Experience with reviewing Financial Statements
  • 4-10 years of corporate accounting experience
  • Knowledge of accounts payables procedures and principles
  • Understanding of general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close processes
  • Highly detail-oriented and organized 
  • Excellent organization and administration skills
  • Accuracy and attention to detail, thoroughness, and meeting deadlines
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in MS Office, including PowerPoint, Word, Excel
  • Familiarity with Yardi preferred

Compensation:

$75,000 - $85,000. Stanton Norfolk offers a competitive benefits package, including full health insurance (following a 30-day waiting period), retirement savings plan, flexible spending, and paid time off.
