Position Summary:

Reporting to the Chief Underwriting Officer, U.S., the Head of Credit Exposure, U.S. will plan, direct, coordinate, and oversee credit review and approval processes in the U.S. Insurance underwriting division, ensuring the development and implementation of effective policies, guidelines, and procedures for credit-sensitive products and management of counter-party credit risk.

Leadership:
  • Working with the Ascot U.S. CEO, CUO, Risk organization, Loss Control, Finance, and UW leaders to establish credit review and approval guidelines in support of Ascot US growth and profitability goals
  • Recruit, interview, hire, and train required staff
  • As a senior leader in the organization, understand, demonstrate, and encourage The Ascot Way in all interactions with team members, peers, and Ascot customers
Strategic:
  • Advises and enables the strategic vision and business goals of credit-sensitive business units, as we expand Ascot’s capabilities and appetite into new areas 
  • Collaborates with other executive leadership team members to develop and execute a credit review and approval business plan and recommended credit policies while supplying expertise and guidance on commercial credit-related matters
  • Drafts and implements underwriting standards and tools for various credit-exposed lines of business, including Primary Casualty, Group Captives, Surety, Trade Credit, and others. 
  • Identifies, recommends, and implements new policies, procedures, and systems to help various businesses effectively monitor account and portfolio credit risk over time 
  • Monitors and maintains oversight of Ascot’s underlying credit risk portfolio 
  • Ensures departmental compliance with laws, regulations, standards, and best practices including completion and maintenance of documentation and records.
  • Maintains knowledge and advises executive team on emerging risks, technologies, and trends in commercial credit
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Ability to organize and analyze financial information and to accurately perform complex financial calculations
  • Thorough and detailed understanding of commercial credit analysis
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field required; advanced work at the master’s level is preferred
  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or other certification preferred 
  • Ten to fifteen years of commercial credit risk analysis / commercial banking management experience required

Compensation

Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to experience, subject matter expertise, and skills. The base pay is just one component of Ascot’s total employee compensation package. Other rewards may include annual cash bonuses, long-term incentives, and other forms of discretionary compensation awarded by the Company. The annualized base pay range for this role is $220,000 - $260,000.
