ARTAZN - Specialist, Human Resources
Job Purpose/Scope:
Responsible for generalist human resource functions encompassing timekeeping system and clocks, payroll preparation and submittal, reporting workers’ compensation reporting and management, policy administration, training, and employee activities in support of operational and strategic goals.
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
Essential Functions
30 % Prepare, process, and distribute weekly and biweekly payroll utilizing electronic payroll systems; create and distribute weekly, monthly, and ad hoc reports via HRIS systems and/or a combination of automated and manual information.
20 % Manage timekeeping module, holding supervisors accountable for timely submittal of employee timekeeping. Work with programmers to ensure calculations based on union contract language and company policies are accurate.
10 % Monitor and track employee attendance. Create absenteeism disciplinary actions and track for completion, report quarterly and annual perfect attendance.
10 % Administer Workers’ Compensation program to include submittal of First Report of Injury, tracking lost time or restricted duty cases, coordinate and communicate return to work plans and keep management informed of employee status.
10% Track FMLA and short-term disability payments through reports and information from third party administrator.
5 % Manually track newly hired employees’ hours of work during probationary period to establish and publish seniority date for the Seniority Report. Manually track employees’ pay progression for attainment of the next increase level.
5 % Administer employee recognition programs such as service awards and retirement celebrations. Assure reports are created for service awards, order plaques and cakes for retirement parties, etc.
5 % Provide training on areas of interest and to meet regulatory responsibilities in the areas of benefits, employment law and company policy.
5 % Seek and implement systems improvements through streamlining and automation while creating and updating procedures for the office and quality systems.
Secondary Functions
Back up to HR Supervisor who maintains multiple information systems (HRIS and other associated programs) to include demographic data, employee and dependent information, job history information, applicant flow, and compensation.
Back up to HR Supervisor who manages the automated timekeeping hand punch equipment to training new users.
Back up to HR Supervisor who administers and explains benefits to employees, serve as liaison between employees and benefit carriers.
Back up to HR Supervisor who performs orientation and on-boarding process with new employees and exit interviews as employees leave the organization.
Assists in performing those administrative activities necessary for the effective management of the department, including provision for selection and development of employees, salary administration, budget administration, employee safety, employee counseling and motivation, organization goals and objectives, and planning, organizing, integrating, and measuring the work performed within the plant.
Interface one-on-one and in a group setting with employees to answer questions, transfer information and knowledge.
Miscellaneous administrative responsibilities such as ordering office supplies, distributing mail, obligations under the Collective Bargaining Agreement seniority lists, etc.
Knowledge/Experience/Skills:
Knowledge
1. Some college level coursework with a minimum of an AS Degree in Business Management or a related field preferred. Knowledge of applicable laws i.e., EEO, FLSA, FMLA, COBRA a plus. administrative function, administrating benefit welfare plans.
2. Excellent computer proficiency i.e., Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, electronic timekeeping systems and HRIS systems.
Experience
Three to five years’ experience in a human resources function with exposure to benefits administration, payroll, recruitment processes and policy interpretation.
Prior experience in a unionized environment, desirable.
Strong regulatory skills with ability to read, interpret, and apply laws in areas of payroll, FMLA, and Workers’ Compensation.

Specialized Working conditions and % Travel: (i.e., hearing, vision, extreme temperatures)
1. Mainly sedentary but must have the physical skills necessary to operate the phone system and computer keyboard and mouse.
