A variety of shifts including nights and weekends and holidays are required.

Summary:

The responsibilities of the Veterinary Assistant include, but are not limited to the following activities:

-Assist with restraining patients for treatments/procedures/radiographs.-Prepare cages for patients that are being dropped off for procedures or daytime hospitalization as needed; conducting patient intake.
-Assist with admitting patients that are being dropped off for a procedure, as needed.
-Communicate with all members of the staff to include, but not limited to the following,

-Patient status change updates to the technician and/or veterinarian
-Patient rounds with the technician
-Assisting with procedures in all departments
-Report inventory needs to the appropriate team member

-Various cleaning around the hospital. This includes but may not be limited to the following,
-Cleaning cages and hospital areas, bathrooms, mopping, feeding, and the sterilization of instruments.

-Clean areas in between patients.

-Clean and walk patients.
-Restock and maintain the hospital clean and clutter free.

-Administering medications by oral route.
-Recognizing pain and notifying Doctor or Technician.
-Ability to assist with CPR.
-Pharmacology of common drugs.
-Basic knowledge of diseases and surgical procedures.
-Various administrative tasks including but not limited to, computer input into patient’s files.
-Provide aseptic techniques to the workplace.
-Ability to fill prescriptions (Assistant level II).
-Ability to run basic in house blood tests.
-Preparation of samples to be sent to the lab.
-Prepare requested diets for in house patients as needed.
-Record diet intake and U/BM/V/D on treatment sheets
-Other duties as assigned.

-Work well with all team members and ensure that actions support the hospital, the doctors, and the practice philosophy.

-Attend regular department meetings.

-Check ACV email on a regular basis to ensure timely communication with management and staff.
