Construction Controller

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Construction Controller to join our growing client, a small business specializing in construction. The ideal candidate will possess in-depth knowledge of construction accounting principles, financial management, and industry regulations. This role will be responsible for overseeing all financial operations, providing strategic guidance, and ensuring compliance with internal policies and external regulations.

Responsibilities

Financial Management:

  • Oversee all financial activities, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting for construction projects.
  • Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure accuracy in financial reporting.
  • Monitor cash flow, accounts receivable, and accounts payable to optimize working capital management.

Cost Control and Analysis:

  • Analyze project costs, expenses, and revenues to identify variances and areas for cost optimization.
  • Work closely with project managers to track project budgets, evaluate profitability, and ensure adherence to financial targets.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to improve cost efficiency and profitability of construction projects.

Financial Reporting and Analysis:

  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
  • Conduct financial analysis to assess project performance, profitability, and financial health of the business.
  • Present financial reports and analysis to senior management and stakeholders to support decision-making processes.

Compliance and Risk Management:

  • Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, tax regulations, and industry guidelines.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors to facilitate audits and tax filings.
  • Identify financial risks and implement strategies to mitigate them, ensuring adherence to internal controls and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting preferred, but not required. Years of experience in the construction industry will be considered in leu of degree.
  • Proven experience as a controller or senior-level accountant in the construction industry, with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong understanding of construction accounting principles, job costing, and revenue recognition.
  • Proficiency in financial management software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, etc.) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
