Position Summary

The Director of Development and Community Engagement (DDCE) will drive fundraising and volunteer efforts, fostering relationships with donors, volunteers and corporations. The DDCE will be engaged in individual and corporate major gift work while directing all aspects of the Arkansas Foodbank’s special events, cause-related marketing, third-party events, volunteer and corporate giving program. This includes securing major gifts, corporate funding, special events sponsorships, and in-kind gifts to further the mission of the Arkansas Foodbank.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Individuals in this position may occasionally work irregular hours as necessary.

The Director of Development and Community Engagement (DDCE) is a vital member of the Development department and collaborates with them to support the implementation of new strategies, programs or initiatives. This position will be comfortable learning new technology, as well as an eagerness to utilize Arkansas Foodbank software systems. They will possess strong interpersonal skills, a spirit of collaboration and team work, and a commitment to hunger relief.

  • Works closely with CDO to develop and implement fundraising and program strategy to support mission and goals of the Arkansas Foodbank.
  • Establishes, forecasts, and evaluates fundraising potential, researches and identifies sources of funds to support Foodbank programs
  • Develop fundraising strategy for seasonal campaigns, special events; tracks, monitors and evaluates results.
  • Works closely with CDO to establish and implement guidelines for donor stewardship and recognition; develops means of stewardship for donors that effectively and enthusiastically convey the organization’s appreciation.
  • Hires, trains, and motivates a talented Development staff committed to the mission and values of the Foodbank. Coaches and develops staff to maximize performance.
  • Works with foodbank staff to develop budget, action plans, methods, materials, procedures, and reports for each event and campaign to enhance effectiveness and maximize revenue. Coaches staff to coordinate and run successful events and campaigns with a focus on cultivation, stewardship and securing major and corporate gifts to further the mission of the organization.
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit and appreciate both individual and corporate major gift donors. Must also develop and execute donor experiences as needed, including receptions, volunteer opportunities, food drives and others.
  • Work with the Corporate Relations Manager to oversee the Corporate Partnership program to ensure all goals are met and corporate donors receive appropriate stewardship throughout the year.
  • Work with the Corporate Relations Manager to oversee the solicitation and management of major gifts for special events from corporate and individual prospects. Management of cause-related marketing campaigns, and third party events.
  • Perform other duties as necessary or assigned.

Position Qualifications

Other job related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements upon approval.

  • The equivalent of a bachelor’s degree from a college or university accredited by an organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA)
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in Development or Project Management.
  • At least two (2) years supervisory experience
  • Familiarity with computer operations including Microsoft Word, Excel, donor database management and wealth screening.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, hand controls; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; and stoop. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. While performing duties of this job, the employee regularly is exposed to wet or humid conditions; extreme cold or heat; and general outside weather conditions.
