Director of Vicariate Renewal is a senior position within the Archdiocese of Chicago serving the needs of a particular vicariate (pastoral region). As a vicariate level leader of parish renewal, s/he will support the pastoral renewal vision of the Archbishop of Chicago through direct ministry support of pastors and parish leadership teams to implement the renewal practices envisioned in Renew My Church. S/he will also serve as the senior ministry team member on the episcopal vicar’s vicariate team.

Responsibilities

Drives spiritual renewal vision implementation through support of pastors and parishes within the vicariate and contributes to overall archdiocesan spiritual renewal efforts through participation in projects to respond to needs arising across the archdiocese.

  • Drives renewal implementation in vicariate parishes by supporting pastors and parish leadership teams
  • Engages pastors in initial vision sharing
  • Coordinates with the vicar to assess if a pastor/parish is ready to engage the renewal process, including cohorts for evangelization and core leadership elements
  • Liaises with Office of Evangelization and Missionary Discipleship (OEMD) to move a pastor/parish into the first stage of the evangelization process; provides support to OEMD Coordinator to troubleshoot any parish issues
  • Facilitates cohorts for core leadership elements
  • Serves as a liaison from parishes engaging in renewal to Archdiocesan pastoral services, especially with regard to resources for “Renew My Church.”
  • Meets regularly with other Directors of Vicariate Parish Renewal for support, communications and collaborative effort
  • Supports the vicar to hold parishes accountable for mission vitality – accompanies parishes engaging in renewal and problem solves roadblocks. Raises non engaged parishes to vicar’s attention for his discernment of how to respond
  • Serves as a core member of the vicariate team to ensure renewal is being implemented in parishes
  • Integral member of member of the Episcopal Vicar’s staff. Reports to the vicar and to the Director of Parish Renewal Implementation. Director of Parish Renewal Implementation completes DVR’s annual performance review with input from the vicar
  • Participates in deanery and vicariate meetings, hosts other meetings by deanery and vicariate as necessary
    • Establishes relationships with deans, pastors and pastoral staffs through visitation of parishes to acquire knowledge of parish life and identify parish needs
    • Collaborates with Episcopal Vicar (Auxiliary Bishop) in introducing and executing pastoral strategy and vision of Renew My Church. Serves as a vicariate ministry coordinator for the “Review My Church” initiative.
    • Maintains strong partnership with Director of Vicariate Operations for a coordinated effort to support parishes
    • Participates on Department of Parish Vitality and Mission project teams to meet emerging renewal needs
    • Expected that 10-20% of time is devoted to developing or implementing projects that support all parishes with renewal
