Summary

Chemical Control Specialist | Specialist, Senior | Generation - Drive operational excellence at Arizona Public Service (APS) by providing strategic leadership to Operations Personnel in optimizing chemical treatment and control processes.

You are responsible for:

  • Lead efforts to maximize the efficiency, availability, and longevity of critical equipment such as boilers, demineralizers, cooling towers, and auxiliary equipment, ensuring uninterrupted power generation and enhancing overall reliability.
  • Perform chemical control and technical duties for boilers, demineralizer, cooling tower and auxiliary equipment to maximize equipment efficiency, availability and longevity.
Minimum Requirements

Chemical Control Specialist | Generation

  • Bachelors degree in a science such as biology, chemistry, geology, physics, or engineering
  • AND two (2) years general power plant experience
  • OR three (3) years experience in power plant water treatment or an equivalent combination of experience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of water treatment chemistry, laboratory safety practices and laboratory equipment and basic math skills along with an understanding of safe practices in handling chemicals for chemical cleaning, chemical addition, and chemical neutralization.
  • This will require knowledge of the chemical operation of drum and supercritical boilers, brine concentrators, Reverse Osmosis systems, and scrubbers, potable water systems and chemical control techniques and philosophies, and chemical analysis procedures and techniques as specific position demands.

Chemical Control Specialist, Senior | Generation

  • Demonstrated knowledge of boiler, cooling tower and demineralizer chemistry, power plant operations, process flows, system interactions, analytical testing procedures, company policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication and leadership skills.
  • BS in Science related field OR five (5) years applicable experience.
Major Accountabilities

1) Review and perform chemical analysis, interpret analytical results relative to established chemical limits and recommend or take corrective action when necessary.

2) Enforce company, plant and laboratory safety policies in laboratories and other chemical related areas.
3) Participate and provide technical direction to Operations & Maintenance in chemical related maintenance and process troubleshooting activities.
4) Establish and participate in quality control programs for analysis and chemical control activities.
5) Establish and implement training programs for SS, Water Analysts and Auxiliary Operators in water analysis technique, chemical control procedures and in the operation of chemical control equipment.
6) Assist in the evaluation of environmental standards, prepares and updates plant procedures, participates in environmental audits and coordinate training for employees.
