JOB DESCRIPTION

The Maintenance Assistant assumes the responsibility for performing minor repairs and maintenance of equipment in the facility. Responsible for the optimal functioning of all equipment either facility or resident owned. Follows established safety policies and procedures within the facility. Responsible for total compliance with Federal, State, Health Care Quality and Joint Commission of Accreditation rules and regulations.

• Assures that all necessary repairs are performed as soon as possible
• Assists in monitoring all service vendor contracts needed for repairs within the facility
• Assists in ordering and receiving all supplies needed for repairs within the facility
• Assures compliance with all Federal, State and Joint Commission of Accreditation rules and regulations governing physical plant management
• Maintains all required documentation and logs according to facility policy and regulatory agencies
• Assures compliance with facility fire and evacuation policy and procedure
• Assists in providing in-service education as needed for staff
• Refers any corrective action necessary to the Director of Plant Operations
• Acts as a role model to maintenance staff
• Assumes the responsibility for open lines of communication to the Director of Plant Operations
• Monitors resident personal equipment for Federal, State and Joint Commission Accreditation rules and regulations, maintains logs of all resident personal equipment
• Monitors safety of all equipment used in facilityand removes unsafe equipment immediately
• Assumes responsibility for necessary weeding
• Assumes responsibility for snow removal from walkways during winter months
• Assumes responsibility for residents, visitors and staff safety upon entering and leaving the facility during inclement weather

 QUALIFICATIONS

• High School graduate or equivalent required
• Ability to follow directions and perform job duties and responsibilities with minimal supervision
• Must have working knowledge of basic electricity, plumbing, HVAC, painting and carpentry skills
• Previous long-term care experience preferred
