Andy's Pizza - Old Town Alexandria is Hiring a Beverage Manager Near Alexandria, VA

Andy's Pizza, named DC's #1 pizza, is seeking a friendly and experienced Beverage Nerd to oversee the bar, as well as retail wine and beer operations. This position is ideal for individuals passionate about beverages and eager to contribute to the growth and success of our pizzeria. The Beverage Nerd will work closely with the General Manager and Beverage Director to curate our wine and beer program, from 9.99 floor stacks of wine to highly sought after and allocated specialty beers/wines. Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the General Manager and Beverage Director to curate and manage the retail wine and beer program.
  • Ensure proper inventory management, including ordering, receiving, pricing, merchandising, and organizing products.
  • Conduct awesome product tastings and maintain a deep knowledge of wines, beers, and other beverages offered. (we will pay for continued education sommelier/cicerone!)
  • Provide guidance and recommendations to customers based on their preferences and pairing needs.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service by providing detailed product information and recommendations.
  • Assist customers with selecting and purchasing wines, beers, and other beverages that complement their dining experience.
  • Resolve customer inquiries, concerns, and complaints in a timely and professional manner.
  • Foster long-term customer relationships and build a loyal customer base.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, new releases, and emerging beverage products.
  • Conduct internal staff training sessions to enhance the knowledge of wine, beer, and beverage offerings.
  • Educate and train staff members on proper pouring, serving, and storage techniques.
  • Provide guidance to staff on upselling and promoting beverage products.
  • Create attractive displays to highlight featured wines, beers, and other beverages.
  • Monitor and maintain the cleanliness and organization of the retail beverage area.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to develop promotional materials and strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and licensing requirements related to the sale of alcoholic beverages.
  • Implement and maintain proper safety protocols for the handling and storage of beverages.
  • Monitor and enforce age verification procedures to prevent the sale of alcoholic beverages to minors.

Qualifications:

  • Passion for beverages, including wine, beer, and other alcoholic and non-alcoholic options.
  • Previous experience in a similar role, such as a sommelier, wine steward, or retail product associate.
  • Excellent knowledge of wine regions, varietals, beer styles, and beverage trends.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and build rapport with customers.
  • Ability to provide accurate recommendations and pairings based on customer preferences.
  • Organizational skills to manage inventory, pricing, and ordering processes.
  • Attention to detail and ability to maintain an aesthetically pleasing retail display.
  • Understanding of compliance and safety regulations related to the sale of alcoholic beverages.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional certification in wine or beverage education is a plus.
