OVERVIEW
The Amwins SRU Development Program is designed to provide participants with comprehensive training and development for aspiring Underwriters in the insurance industry. Associate Underwriters will build advanced technical underwriting skills and be exposed to all elements of the Amwins Special Risk Underwriters programs. We will focus on expanding both the breadth and depth of participants’ knowledge and understanding of specialized catastrophic property risk analysis. This intensive multi-year program provides the opportunity for associates to develop the necessary skills and expertise to succeed in their roles and develop their career within the industry.
The program will extend offers annually to qualified individuals who are prepared to demonstrate a commitment to learning and quality execution of underwriting judgement and guidelines The SRU team has regional offices in the following locations:
  • Atlanta, GA
  • Birmingham, AL
  • Charlotte, NC
  • Chicago, IL
  • Los Angeles, CA
This position will be located in the Chicago, IL office.
Special Risk Underwriters Development Program Overview
The purpose of this program is to develop and prepare new associates for future success as an Amwins Special Risk Underwriting Associate. The SRUDP guides associate underwriters through an intensive 3-year professional development program, in which candidates will participate in self-study coursework, technical and systems trainings, job shadowing and mentorship and networking within the industry.
Overview of Program Topics:
Year One Focus: Technical Skills and Tools of Underwriting
Year Two Focus: Marketing and Broker Relationships
Year Three Focus: Mentoring and Coaching
Associates will:
  • Learn the foundation of technical underwriting skills and acumen, focused on risk selection and evaluation.
  • Acquire marketing skills for prospecting, qualifying and developing quality brokerage and agency relationships
  • Learn and apply principles of client relationship management.
  • Develop internal relationships to further their goals.
  • Cultivate an understanding of emotional intelligence and leadership skills.
  • Explore professional development topics: communication, time management, decision-making.
  • Discuss client-facing topics: business relationships, cross-selling, client escalations.
  • Complete several online courses based on operational topics listed below
Program Target Audience:
  • Bachelor’s degree within any business-related field
  • New to the industry or possess less than 12 months of experience as an Underwriting Associate.
  • Strong potential for future leadership.
  • Highly motivated problem solver
  • Receptive to feedback and focused on personal growth within the industry
Program Expectations:
  • Actively participate and engage in all sessions and networking events.
  • Travel to attend sessions at various regional offices.
