AWS Systems Engineer

Location: Atlanta, GA

6 Months CTH

Backfill Role

Hybrid 2 days a week

This role is heavily involved within the AWS migration project. Moving all Medquest into the cloud (AWS) and will be using Terraform heavily within this process.

Required Skills

5-7 yrs. experience deploying and managing cloud environments

Prior experience with AWS migrations

Strong experience with Terraform is a must

Strong general networking experience (SDwan)

Strong knowledge within SQL

Preferred Skills: Healthcare Experience

Requirements

Technical Expertise:

At least 5-7 years of hands-on experience deploying and managing cloud infrastructure and services.

Proficiency in AWS and a deep understanding of their console and services.

Strong knowledge of infrastructure as code tools like Terraform and Azure DevOps.

Proficient in scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell) for automation and task optimization.

A good understanding of cloud networking, security practices, and identity and access management (IAM).

Proficiency in cloud-based database management and administration.

Familiarity with monitoring and alerting tools for performance management and incident response.

Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues efficiently.

Extensive experience with cloud platforms and services, often including AWS certifications.

In-depth understanding of security best practices, including experience with security scanning tools and the ability to architect secure systems.

Proficiency in advanced monitoring, logging, and observability tools and practices, including custom metric collection and alerting setup.

Strong knowledge of networking and system administration, including advanced troubleshooting and performance optimization.

Experience with project management, including the ability to plan and execute complex DevOps projects.

As a System Engineer, your mission is to leverage the latest cloud technologies, best practices, and automation tools to ensure high availability, reliability, and performance of our cloud-based services, while proactively identifying and mitigating risks and continuously improving our cloud infrastructure to support the evolving needs of the business.

Responsibilities, Duties, Functions, Tasks (Outcomes)

• Cloud Infrastructure Management: Manage and maintain AWS cloud infrastructure, ensuring it is scalable, reliable, and optimized using Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform.
• Design and Deployment: Design AWS cloud architectures that consider scalability, redundancy, and high availability, select appropriate AWS services, and deploy cloud-based solutions that meet business requirements.
• Resource Provisioning: Provision and manage AWS cloud resources, including virtual machines, storage, databases, and networking components using Infrastructure as Code.
• Security and Compliance: Implement and monitor AWS security best practices, access controls, and compliance measures, adhering to standards such as SOC 2 and HIPAA HIGH TRUST, to protect data and systems in the cloud.
• Performance Optimization: Continuously monitor and optimize AWS cloud resources for cost-efficiency and performance, using tools like AWS CloudWatch, Dynatrace, DataDog, and troubleshoot performance issues as they arise.
• Automation: Develop and maintain Terraform scripts and tools to streamline provisioning, scaling, and maintenance tasks, and integrate with CI/CD pipelines for automated deployments.
• Disaster Recovery: Develop and implement disaster recovery and backup plans in AWS to ensure data integrity and system availability, with defined RPO and RTO targets.
• Monitoring and Alerts: Set up monitoring systems and alerts using AWS monitoring tools, such as AWS CloudWatch/Dynatrace/DataDog and integrate with alerting and incident response processes.
• Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation of AWS cloud infrastructure, configurations, and processes, utilizing documentation tools that enhance team accessibility.
• Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including developers and DevOps engineers, to support application deployment and integration with AWS services, following Agile and DevOps methodologies.
• Cost Management: Monitor and manage AWS expenses, optimize resource utilization, and recommend cost-saving strategies, adhering to budget constraints and AWS cost models.
