A nursing home located in Philadelphia, PA is currently seeking an experienced Infection Control/Nurse Educator.

Qualifications:

• Must have current Pennsylvania RN license
• Must have prior experience as an Infection Control Nurse
• Must have experience as a Nurse Educator
• Must have experience in long term care
• Must have infection control certification
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Responsibilities:

• Performs resident assessments for appropriateness of resident’s care with regard to infection control and adherence to isolation policies and procedures.
• Performs clinical rounds for surveillance to verify the status of residents, treatment, and necessary follow-up for care needs and staff development.
• Surveillance rounds to examine the environmental factors that may impact infection control issues.
• Review lab reports and follow-up procedures.
• Performs surveillance rounds to ensure that nursing personnel is performing in accordance with infection control procedures and standards.
• Investigates outbreaks of infection and assesses presence/absence of cross-contamination, and related data.
• Evaluate data for indicators of cause of infection.
• Interacts with nursing and laboratory personnel to coordinate and facilitate services.
• Ensures the exchange of essential information necessary for quality resident care in the area of infection control.
• Acts as a liaison with the local public health department in reporting infectious disease/infections as defined in the Infection Control Manual.
• Maintains all documentation as required by Federal and State regulations, and Company policy.
• Attends Infection Control Committee meetings as a part of QAA meetings and gives a summary of infections as to type and number of infections acquired by residents and/or employees.
• The nurse educator is responsible for identifying, facilitating and evaluating educational activities for nursing and clinical staff
• This position provides opportunities to promote life-long learning for employees and lends to safe, quality, patient care
• Facilitates the orientation process for all new staff
• Develops, organizes and delivers all classroom or virtual orientation lesson plans
• Facilitates and/or develops and deliver continuing educational opportunities for staff
• Assesses staff competency levels and facilitates various methods to accomplish competency completion
• Provides ongoing educational needs assessment to identify relevant educational activities such as new diagnoses, new equipment, policy and procedure expectations, and quality outcome data
• Determine effectiveness of educational offerings and analyze cost to maximize the efficient utilization of resources
• In collaboration with Directors/Managers, provides support and education remediation, as appropriate
• Maintains strict record keeping of all educational activities with attendance as required by regulatory agencies such as NYSDOH
