Help chart the course for database technology at American Express! We need top technical talent to supplement our Database Engineering team. This R&D team within American Express’s technology division selects the operational database technologies American Express will use, and figures out how best to set them up. We define, design, implement, test, and communicate the architectures, configurations, best practices, and standards for optimal use of database technologies across the company, both on-prem and in the cloud. We evaluate new and upgraded database versions, features, components and extensions for performance, throughput, scalability, availability, and security; and we partner with our hosting, database administration, and operational support teams to operationalize and harden OLTP technology for our top-tier financial applications. This specific posting is for a software/infrastructure engineer with experience in learning, integrating, configuring and enabling relational and NoSQL databases especially in Google Cloud Platform, Amazon Web Services, and Azure. The candidate will put these skills to use in our R&D lab by evaluating and preparing public cloud database offerings for use across Amex, and by documenting, presenting and explaining the appropriate techniques, patterns and best practices for our database engineering, administration and operational support teams. Initially, the engineer will focus on Aurora Postgres and DynamoDB on AWS, and on CloudSQL, Spanner, BigTable and AlloyDB on Google public cloud. Additionally, there may be opportunities to work on CosmosDB, SQL Server and other databases on Microsoft’s Azure cloud; and we always have lots of work to do on databases on prem as well.The candidate will bring solid knowledge of DBMS concepts such as ACID, CAP, consistency, and durability. The ideal candidate will have experience with enterprise-scale database cluster deployments and management on GCP and AWS, including intra- and inter-data-center high availability configurations, security, fault tolerance and failover, replication, cluster management, automated provisioning, upgrade techniques, backup & restoration techniques, security mechanisms, health monitoring and alerting techniques, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.Additional desirable attributes· Skill with Terraform· The ability to write code or script, e.g. for test harnesses or other database-related tools and utilities; e.g. shell script and/or Ansible· Experience as a database administrator and/or a Unix system administrator· Knowledge and certifications on AWS, Google Cloud, Azure or other public cloud offeringsBachelor’s degree preferred

Salary Range: $85,000.00 to $150,000.00 annually bonus benefits
