Advocates for Human Potential, Inc. ("AHP"), is seeking a Research Associate to join our team of leading researchers in behavioral health studies. This position will be located in AHPs Chicago, IL office and will be required to work in the office at least two days per week.AHP ( is a fast-growing consulting and research firm specializing in health and behavioral health, offering technical assistance and training, system and program development, resource development and dissemination, and research and evaluation. Our core content areas include mental health policy and services, substance abuse treatment and prevention, co-occurring disorders, workforce development, homelessness and housing, and criminal justice.Responsibilities

  • Managing implementation of all or a portion of evaluation/research plans including participating in project meetings, coordinating stakeholder meetings, assisting with survey/protocol development, managing data collection, submitting IRB applications, resolving problems and tracking project timelines and deliverables
  • Enrolling, tracking, and conducting interviews with study participants and maintaining tracking databases
  • Conducting focus groups and key informant interviews with a wide range of stakeholders (agency administrators, clinicians/treatment providers, people with lived experience of substance use disorders)
  • Conducting quantitative and qualitative analyses
  • Co-facilitating stakeholder meetings and preparing meeting minutes and other documents
  • Preparing reports, presentations, data dictionaries, literature reviews, and other work products
  • Contributing to business development efforts
  • Participating in data collection and data quality/integrity tasks
  • Meeting regularly with the project team to discuss project process, data, and any difficulties
  • Acting as a liaison between the evaluation and provider staff regarding client enrollment and data collection
  • Creating evaluation training materials
  • Preparing reports summarizing data and key project results
Qualifications
  • A Masters degree in social work, psychology, public health, or related field.
  • Strong knowledge of social science research study design and methods.
  • Previous experience with quantitative and qualitative analysis, data collection, proposal writing, and project management is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders including state-level administrators, behavioral health program directors, advocates, clinicians, and people with lived experience of substance use disorders.
  • Experience working directly with individuals who are currently or have experienced life challenges such as substance misuse, homelessness, mental health problems and/or child welfare involvement.
  • Experience working or volunteering in direct service settings, non-profit agencies, or publicly-funded treatment programs, such as homeless shelters, outreach programs, community-based mental health centers, etc.
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to perform duties that require close attention to detail.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, technical staff, partners, and clients.
  • Ability to operate in a team environment and be flexible in taking on and performing assignments as necessary
  • Ability to quickly establish a good rapport and a respectful and empathic relationship with study participants.
  • Proficient in Stata, REDCap, MS Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and qualitative analysis and citation management software.
Salary Range: $53,000-$60,000AHP, in an effort to be transparent with applicants about salary and in compliance with various state pay disclosure requirements, publishes the following information which is current as of the date of posting. The base salary range above represents the low and high end of the AHP salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and may be high or low in the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, and education.
