Ambassadors for Christ Youth Ministries, Inc is Hiring a Housing Intake Coordinator Near Houston, TX

Founded in 2006 as a 501c3 nonprofit organization, Ambassadors For Christ, Inc. is committed to providing multi-faceted mentoring and counseling programs to at-risk children and youth, and their families. AFC has touched the lives of more than 5,500 youth through its programs, giving them hope, encouragement, and better equipping them for success in life. AFC’s mission is to inspire excellence and promote leadership to youth through mentoring, music and the performing arts in order to provoke positive change and enrichment in our community.

The Housing Intake Coordinator will be responsible for responding to referrals of new victims in

a timely manner in Houston, Texas’ Westwood Community (and surrounding areas; including

completing the intake eligibility form.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identify and present safe and affordable housing options for victims
  • Assist victims in understanding and agreement when entering program
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with victims/survivors, case managers, and other support staff and partners to ensure that victims meet house application requirements and maintain housing when secured
  • Educate stakeholders and landlords about housing protections on behalf of victims
  • Aid in lease negotiations with landlords
  • Assist victims with challenges that may arise related to rent payment, housing conditions, or other identified concerns
  • Attend local housing stakeholder meetings (e.g., Continuum of Care, Public Housing Authority)
  • Assist victims in completing applications and providing necessary documents to be placed on waiting lists for affordable housing rental properties, as well as the Housing Choice Voucher Program
  • Be available to respond to questions from victims/survivors
  • Be professional in representing the Path Forward program to landlords/property managers, and while in meetings throughout the community
  • Regularly communicate with property managers/affordable housing developers in order to maintain a current and accurate list of affordable housing/rental properties which are accepting applications for a wait list.
  • Identify other community resources and providing information and referrals to services such as public housing programs, medical and mental health services
  • Performs other duties/responsibilities or special projects as necessary by supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of community resources and case management/social work practices with
  • high-risk youth populations
  • Excellent written, documentation and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a variety of settings with culturally diverse families and communities
  • with the ability to be culturally sensitive and appropriate
  • Ability to work independently with a strong sense of focus
  • A strong sense of and respect for confidentiality involving both clients and fellow
  • employees
  • Must have a valid Texas Driver’s License
  • Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle and provide own insured transportation
  • On-call availability required.

EDUCATION: Associates degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology or a related field

preferred.

HOURS: Some evenings and weekends required. 10% Travel

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of two (2) years experience performing client intake applications

and basic needs assessments with youth and young adults preferred.

SALARY: Starting at $35,000
