Position Summary: The Executive Director – Flandreau Indian School (FIS) is responsible for planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating the FIS Program. The Executive Director will assist students in establishing personal achievement goals and educational programs, work with current school staff to ensure access to community resources, provide cultural programming, and facilitate school and student relationships. Executive Director - FIS is expected to uphold the Club values inside and outside of the Club and hold their staff accountable for maintaining the Club values. The Club values include teamwork, impact-driven, excellence & good character.

Hours: 8-5pm

Compensation: $50,000/year

POSITION DUTIES:

  • Create, design, and plan a program for the Flandreau Indian School (FIS)
  • Provide tutoring and academic support for all students on an as needed basis.
  • Plan and provide monthly cultural art (events) for Native American students at FIS.
  • Monitor and track student progress, attendance, and discipline.
  • Stays current on issues of the educational needs of American Indian youth.
  • Stays current on issues of the needs of American Indian youth.
  • Assists with preparing grant applications, program evaluations, and other reports.
  • Build relationships with principals, counselors, and teachers to assist American Indian students in preparing for post-secondary education.
  • Maintain communication between employer and employee through bi-weekly meetings.
  • Serve as an advocate for youth.
  • Responsible for holding the biweekly team and individual one-on-one meetings with all direct report staff.
  • Responsible for hiring, supervising, and evaluating all direct report staff by the creation and implementation of 60-day reviews, performance plans, and quarterly reviews.
  • Attends 100% of monthly all staff meetings, weekly one-on-one meetings with the supervisor, weekly team meetings, and is present for all necessary community meetings.
  • Responsible for managing certain budget line items, as well as any grant requirements, ensuring you stay within budget.
  • Responsible for the creation of the staff schedule
  • Establishes a program setting that ensures the health and safety of members.
  • Expected to be proactive and flexible while working with youth, staff, and the community.
  • Conducts National Boys & Girls Club Programs such as Career Launch, Diplomas to Degrees, Money Matters, and Goals for Graduation.
  • Assist in developing impact programs that have measurable outcomes.
  • Responsible for communicating daily with the supervisor on program operations.
  • Responsible for creating membership outreach strategies and implementing these strategies for all youth, specializing in the area of career development.
  • Responsible for working in collaboration with other community groups to enhance services.
  • All other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Employment Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an Accredited University
  • Historical knowledge of the Santee Sioux Tribe
  • Historical knowledge of the other Native American Tribes
  • Knowledge and experience to teach the cultural aspects of the Native American Tribes
  • Knowledge of American Indian history, culture, and sovereignty.
  • Knowledge of issues of the educational needs of American Indian youth.
  • Minimum of 1-year experience with youth services organizations
  • Management/Supervisory Experience
  • Must understand, implement, and demonstrate behavior management principles and other youth treatment modalities, per the Club training and values of fun, supportive relationships, recognition, opportunities and expectations, and safety.
  • Must be able to provide leadership, on-the-spot and reflective feedback, and supervision to assigned employees to ensure they, too, understand and demonstrate principles of behavior management and other youth treatment modalities, per the Club training and values of fun, supportive relationships, recognition, opportunities and expectations, and safety.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be of the mental and physical capacity to observe, interact, and communicate with youth, staff, volunteers, parents, etc. at the Club to ensure the safety of the space and others, provide guidance and reflection per the Club priority outcomes and goals.
  • Ability to stand/sit for long periods throughout a shift.
  • Ability to operate various types of general office equipment including PC, telephone, copier, etc.
