JOB DESCRIPTION: To identify, through formal and informal evaluation, students whose ability to function within the classroom and school setting is hampered by physical or mobility deficits, and to provide direct, indirect, or consultative services to enable students to benefit from education. 

QUALIFICATIONS: Currently licensed or certificated as a registered Physical Therapist in Arizona. Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in physical therapy.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Screen and evaluate students’ physical functioning skills based on a formal and informal evaluation. 
• Develop physical therapy objectives and activities that can be implemented by family members, teachers, and assistants. 
• Develop schedules and provide therapy for students who have deficits in physical orr mobility functions. 
• Orient and/or train family members, teachers, and assistants in specific physical therapy techniques utilized for students in the classroom. 
• Identify students’ needs for adaptive equipment.
• Instruct students, family, and school staff members in the use of special equipment and/or prosthetic devices.
• Participate in multidisciplinary conferences to develop Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students entering or continuing in special education programs. 
• Determine physical therapy equipment and supply needs, make purchase requests for equipment and supplies as appropriate, and maintain inventory of physical therapy equipment and supplies. 
• Evaluate individual student progress in therapy programs and on a regular basis, communicating findings to teachers, parents, and others involved through direct consultation or written reports. 
• Complete required documentation requested by the Director of Exceptional Student Services. 
• Maintain awareness of current advancements/developments in the profession through attendance at professional conferences, workshops, and in-service training programs. 
• Share knowledge gained with physical therapy and special education staff members as appropriate. 
• Maintain records and bills for Medicaid in Public Schools. 
• Perform other duties as assigned.
