POSITION SUMMARY: 

Spend the summer outside teaching ages 5 through 15 the basics of outdoor education, plant identification, survival skills, and environmental studies in small group settings. Facilitate a safe, happy, and fun atmosphere where campers can build confidence and skill in an encouraging, welcoming, and inclusive setting. Duties include safety checks on equipment and the setting(s) being used, teaching the outdoor education curriculum, and creating outdoor education related games and activities for special camper events.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Ensure the safety of all campers & guests utilizing the outdoor education area; remedy all unsafe practices or conditions immediately.
• Apply the outdoor education area policies and procedures at all times.
• Instruct skills and safety classes, and administer different levels.
• Inspect issue and maintain outdoor education equipment; document unsafe equipment and remove from the inventory to be repaired or replaced.
• Works with the Camp Coordinator and other senior staff members, in the coordination of camp activities, in particular, the outdoor education program 
• Provide first aid in emergency situations.

Requirements

 KNOWLEDGE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

• Current certification CPR and first aid (or willingness to obtain certification)
• Must be able to teach patrons and members the proper techniques and fundamentals of outdoor education.
• Knowledge of the outdoors and basic survival skills.
•  Must be 18 or older

EXPERIENCE:

• Prior experience working with kids.
• Possess an Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Education, Science, Environmental Studies, Biology, or similar area of study.
• Experience in the outdoors.
