Alfond Youth & Community Center is Hiring an Outdoor Education Instructor Near Oakland, ME

Description

Contracted Position at Camp Tracy – Summer 2024 ( June 2024 - August 2024)

This is a contracted position for Camp Tracy's new Overnight Adventure camp program. 

Camp Tracy is looking for someone who can teach survival skills to our campers! If you have a talent for braving the outdoors, we encourage you to apply to our Outdoor Education Instructor position! 

The instructor will facilitate all the program activities for the campers during the week-long camp. Activities include, but are not limited to:

  •  Campcraft & firecraft
  • Wilderness survival skills
  • Basic first-aid & CPR skills
  • Knife & blade safety
  • Ecology and environmental studies
  • Adventure programming (hiking, boating, etc.)

The instructor will be supported by overnight camp staff and program specialists.

The instructor is expected to spend the week at Camp Tracy (day overnight) during the dates listed below:

2024 Session Dates*:

1. June 23-28th

2. July 14-19th

3. July 28- Aug 2nd 

Each session = 5 days 5 overnights. Programs run all day.

*Session dates are subject to change based on enrollment. Candidates will be contracted on a per-week basis.

Candidates must have experience leading children’s programming, specifically in an outdoor context. The instructor will be given a rough weekly curriculum but will be free to organize and plan activities as they see fit. For this reason, experience developing and executing outdoor education experiences is a must.

Requirements

  • Minimum Associate’s degree in Outdoor Education, Science, Environmental Studies, Biology, or similar area of study.
  • Wilderness First-Aid or comparable certificate (or willingness to obtain).
  •  Candidates must have ample experience in the outdoors and possess knowledge of wilderness and camping skills. 
  • Experience leading adventure trips is preferred.
