AKRF is seeking an entry-level Construction Engineer/Inspector to support our Engineering team in our New York City office. This individual will serve a key function performing field documentation and inspection for our Engineering Team in support of various projects both public and private relating to utilities, roadway/streetscape, and new building construction. The potential candidate will have the opportunity to work in a collaborative environment with experienced Civil Engineers and other inspection staff, with frequent site visits at construction sites in our own New York City backyard. This is an exciting opportunity to help AKRF shape the future of our community in a changing climate. 

 Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform construction inspections and prepare reports to document site conditions, work progress, building conditions surveys, and regulatory compliance.
  • Assist with review of various engineering and construction documents, including Requests for Information (RFIs), submittals, and material samples.
  • Attend construction progress meetings, site visits, and prepare documentation such as field reports and meeting notes.
  • Perform field services in support of site/civil design, geotechnical, site planning, surveying, grading, drainage, utility design, stormwater management, and soil erosion and sediment control.
  • Perform other duties as requested.

 Essential Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or Construction Engineering.
  • 0-3 years of experience.
  •  Engineer-In-Training Certificate (or the ability to obtain the EIT certificate within 6 months of hire).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to read and interpret during work tasks civil construction drawings, specifications, and regulatory requirements. 
  • Required to travel to project sites in New York City, Long Island, and West Chester, with site visits typically Monday to Friday (typically 7am to 3 pm) with the possibility of occasional overtime for report preparation.
  • Work tasks will be mostly field services oriented with office-based report preparation.
  • Reliable transportation to access job sites and have a valid driver’s license; be comfortable with driving in the NYC metro area and/or utilize public transportation as required.
  • Ability and willingness to work in inclement weather is essential.
  • Internship experience in construction engineering a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to adhere to schedules and work in a collaborative team environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; Bluebeam Revu a plus.
  • Experience with computer-aided drafting software, AutoCAD and Civil 3D, a plus. 

 Compensation will range from $75K-$85K, and commensurate with experience.
