Job Title: Fabrication Project Manager

Reports To: VP of Operations

FLSA Status: Exempt
Summary

As the Fabrication Project Manager you will be responsible for managing projects from creative intake to completion, while maintaining close communications with FOH Producers and the Fabrication Shop Manager. Responsible for populating the fabrication build doc / Slack Channel updates, fabrication estimating, scheduling fabrication Kick off meetings as well as CAD/ Engineering meetings. Continuously monitor and update production calendars to keep all departments informed on fabrications work load / capacity levels. Some travel for onsite, site inspections and installations will be required.

  • Perform duties in accordance with the production schedule within allotted budgets.
  • Capacity to handle multiple priorities with a high degree of accuracy, attention to detail and urgency.
  • Interpret complex drawings, apply knowledge to solutions and incorporate changes when deemed necessary.
  • Review work throughout the work process and at completion to ensure that it has been performed properly.

  • Set and monitor product standards, examining samples of raw products or directing testing during processing, to ensure finished products are of prescribed quality.
  • Maintain current knowledge of the quality control field, relying on current literature pertaining to materials use, technological advances, or statistical studies..
  • Assist in the fabrication of models or samples and the drafting of working drawings and specification sheets from sketches.
  • Evaluate feasibility of design ideas, based on factors such as appearance, safety, function, serviceability, budget, production costs/methods, and market characteristics.
  • Present designs and reports to design committees for approval and discuss the need for modification.
  • Investigate product characteristics such as the product's safety and handling qualities, its market appeal, how efficiently it can be produced, and ways of distributing, using and maintaining it.
  • Research production specifications, costs, production materials and manufacturing methods and provide cost estimates and itemized production requirements.
  • Source materials for builds as best suited for each project.
  • Procuring new vendors as needed.
  • SOP’s, Standards and Practices Coordination - Create, inform, train, reinforce and perfect processes and SOP for all departmental duties, including safety, to make our shop and personnel safe, high-quality and consistent. Foster a culture of learning and mentoring by assisting departments with personal and skill growth so that we can continue to promote from within while holding folks accountable for the quality and standards of their work. You will be employing these SOPs on behalf of the Vp of Operations so that they can message support to you and oversee the outcomes of such training and SOPs. You will be called upon to discipline, make suggestions and recommendations to our processes often and serve as a quality controller for our finished projects.
  • Estimating and Quoting - Attentive to build doc tags for estimates will become the Project Managers sole role, so that there is multiple POC internally to enter and address quotes/estimates in a timely manner for our Producers and Project Managers. You will need to solicit the proper internal contacts for assistance with quoting, but delegation of such assistance remains your duty, as does the ability to turn around such estimates in a timely manner while remaining profitable but competitive so AKJOHNSTON can make money on builds as-quoted while being awarded projects regularly in support of the Company’s business.
  • Design Engineering - Crucial to estimating, design engineering makes recommendations on how to safely engineer and execute projects. Once green-lit, digital drafting of CNC paths, build drawings and engineering drawings (shop drawings) will come from your station as your work product.
  • Coordinate and attend job site visits for project survey needs, with FOH producers, as necessary.

  • Analyze data to inform operational decisions or activities.
  • Submit expenditure requests to Staff Accountant prior to purchasing.
  • Evaluate quality of materials or products.
  • Maintain knowledge of current developments in the area of expertise.
  • Monitor organizational procedures to ensure proper functioning.
  • Recommend organizational process or policy changes.
  • Execute well-built fabrications for the Company while maintaining a great attitude and team-oriented work flow.
  • Maintain respectful, communicative and safe work flow running crews onsite in a professional, timely manner to ensure fabrications are installed properly.
  • Ensure accurate, efficient, and detailed drawings are being specified and created for projects moving through the AKJOHNSTON Fabrication Shop.
  • Collaborate with others to develop or refine designs.
  • At times, weekend and overtime labor will be asked depending on the schedule of projects.
  • Coordinate construction or installation activities.
  • Coordinate design activities.
  • Estimate costs related to production for projects or productions.
  • Monitor current trends.
  • Ensuring final designs are compliant with building regulations.
  • Identify and communicate potential design problems to the rest of the team.
  • Communicate with the VP of Operations on the actual capabilities of shop and procedures.

Desktop Computer Skill

  • Presentations - Navigating the Internet to find information, including the ability to open and configure standard browsers; use searches, hypertext references, and transfer protocols; and send and retrieve electronic mail (e-mail).
  • Spreadsheets - Using a computer application to enter, manipulate, and format text and numerical data; insert, delete, and manipulate cells, rows, and columns; and create and save worksheets, charts, and graphs.

Education/Experience:

  • 2 Years of related industry experience preferred
