Overview

Educates team members as required for their specific roles and hazards which they are exposed to or are responsible for mitigation of, based off EPA, State of Iowa DNR, and Ajinomoto Environmental Programs. Confirmation of compliance with local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to Environmental Health and Safety. Partner with, and advise Management, Supervisors, Employees, Safety and Environmental Management Representative to ensure compliance with all regulations. Special focus on awareness education as well as annual requirements will be tasked under this role.

Qualifications

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate degree required
  • 5 years of experience in the administration of Environmental or Safety programs in a manufacturing facility which included chemical, mechanical and automated machinery
  • Experience of regulations, codes, and standards which encompass Environmental or Safety program requirements
  • Certification is at least one element of Environmental or Safety Regulations (Compliance Officer)
  • OSHA 10 and or 30-hour training for General Industry

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Prior experience with ISO 14001 Environmental or ISO 45001 Safety (including, EPA and State of Iowa DNR Regulations, PSM/RMP, ANZI, NFPA, and NIOSH Standards)
  • Computer knowledge (Microsoft Office, SAP, Velocity, Litmos, etc.)
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels in the organization, as well as external agencies
  • Excellent listening skills
  • Ability to multi-task and redirect focus instantly on an emergency situation
  • Ability to remain calm in the event of an environmental or safety emergency
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Understanding and competency in computer-based applications a must

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Frequent work in a hot and humid production environment
  • Occasional work required outside in various temperatures
  • This position may perform activities in an environment that contains hazardous elements and requires safety awareness and adherence to all safety policies and guidelines
  • Work must be performed in a safe manner for personal protection and for the protection of other team members
  • All safety procedures in all functional areas must be followed, enforced, and strictly complied with

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Sitting, standing, walking, repetitive use of hands/arms/legs, and eye/hand coordination for 6 hours a day
  • Ability to occasionally lift or carry 50 pounds
  • Occasional bending, reaching overhead, crouching, balancing, pushing, or pulling
  • Able to access all areas of the plant including the roof and areas above equipment
  • Ability to operate cars, trucks, and other powered equipment and tools
  • Occasional travel required
  • Must be able to wear all PPE that is required

Responsibilities

Environmental / Safety Program Administration

  • Primary Management of PSM/RPM and NFPA regulatory programs
  • Secondary Management of ISO 14001 environmental tasks
  • Secondary Management of ISO 45001 safety tasks
  • Administer NFPA Combustible Dust Program
  • File reports as required by Compliance programs and corporate elements of reporting
  • Ajinomoto ACSES and OAISIS reporting
  • Assist Management Ajinomoto Radiological / Radiation Permitted Program
  • Assist Management of emission monitoring required under Title V Air Permitting
  • Review Environmental Objectives including KPI’s
  • Monitor all elements of Ajinomoto’s NPDES water emission Permitting
  • Ensuring all new employee onboarding training is completed for PSM/RPM and NFPA details
  • Oversee all water usage and permitted well draw down requirements under Permitting
  • Reviewing all new SDS for proper hazards assessment
  • Conducting RCA for incidents which are classified as requiring them
  • Performing ISO required audits, inspections, and drills as scheduled

Safety, Environmental, and Quality Compliance

  • Stay current on professional development as it pertains to the Regulatory Compliance.
  • Utilize safe work habits and follow all policies and procedures
  • Make sound decisions while not compromising safety, environmental or quality standards
  • Turn in any hazards as they are identified during work hours to get them corrected as soon as possible
  • Know and understand all SER related issues including the SER policies and procedures that affect the role; know the location of and comply with all job instructions
  • Attend regularly scheduled training sessions to stay current on all compliance initiatives

Continuous Improvement & Collaboration

  • Collaborate with other departments within the company to accomplish tasks/goals
  • Suggest/implement process improvement, cost down, or best practice ideas
  • Continually strive for increasing processing efficiencies
  • Complete 5S activities to keep the work area clean and organized following GMP guidelines
