POSITION DESCRIPTION & OVERVIEW

Title: Custodian

Reports To: Facilities Director

Schedule: Mon-Fri, Daytime Flexible

Compensation: $17.34-$18.34/Hour

Job Classification: Hourly, Non-exempt

Union Representation: This position is represented by the AFSCME Local 999


The Custodian will primarily be responsible for cleaning and maintaining cleanliness of the facilities.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND EXPECTATIONS

  • Ensure that all work premises are cleaned and well maintained for staff and visitors by routinely cleaning windows, vacuuming, mopping floors, dusting, emptying all waste receptacles and recycle bins in the kitchen, restrooms, cubicles, offices, conference rooms and lobby.
  • On a daily basis clean and disinfect water fountains, sinks, lavatories, bowls, bathroom door handles. Daily wipe down bathroom walls and weekly clean and wipe down refrigerators disposing of all unlabeled and expired food items.
  • Note and report all fixtures and premise areas that may cause potential safety risks and health hazards.
  • Assist in lower level conference room set up and take down as needed.
  • Assist in snow removal and watering the lawn as requested.
  • Read and follow all instructions on cleaning supplies and while using cleaning equipment.
  • Track and order supplies as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS POSITION

Medium work - Standing most of the time. Occasionally exerting up to 50 pounds of force, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Must be a self-motivated individual who is self-managed and task-oriented and can recognize needs before being told.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs on an occasional to frequent basis.
  • Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time and will be required to lift typical janitorial products; ie. vacuum cleaners, mop buckets, trash cans, etc.
  • Must be able to operate cleaning equipment and handle various cleaning chemicals.
  • Routine maintenance duties will require basic mechanical/electrical skills.

Experience that gives applicants the required skills, abilities, and perspectives listed above are commonly gained through one or more of the following:

  • Personal experience with homelessness;
  • Experience working, interning, or volunteering with people experiencing homelessness;
  • An Associates, Bachelor's, or Master's degree in a relevant field such as Social Work (with accompanying licensure), Human Services, or Family Studies.

REFERRAL BONUS PROGRAM

To be eligible for rewards, candidates must be hired as permanent full or part-time employees (this excludes on-call, employees, temporary employees, interns or contract workers).
