We seek applicants for a full-time position to support all aspects of the College's agriculture complex and laboratories. The Associate Director will manage daily greenhouse operations, assist with department budget planning, and coordinate the maintenance and purchasing of instructional lab supplies and technical equipment. General responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Coordinate the hiring, scheduling, training, and day-to-day supervision of part-time and student laboratory technicians
Administer and oversee instructional and preparation activities related to the agriculture complex and agriculture courses, including those held at offsite locations
Maintain laboratory inventory of chemicals, instructional supplies, and equipment including OSHA laboratory safety standards and record Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)
Plan and schedule crop production and plant sales including recordkeeping in collaboration with the Associate Dean and agriculture faculty members
Maintain greenhouse, food forest, student test plots, and plant collection for the department and laboratory areas, both inside and outside
Perform weekend and holiday maintenance related to the Agricultural complex
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in agriculture or a closely related field
Appropriate Illinois State Pesticide Applicators' Licenses or commitment to complete within 6 months of hire
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekend and holiday hours as needed
Demonstrated ability to maintain a greenhouse and associated equipment
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
Desired Qualifications
Master's degree in agriculture or closely related field
Supervisory experience
Proven ability to collaborate successfully in a team setting
Demonstrated sound scientific judgment and laboratory technical skills
High degree of safety consciousness and responsibility
Knowledge of (or willingness to learn) software specific to greenhouse operations
