Heartland Community College is Hiring an Associate Director, Challenger Learning Center Near Normal, IL

Description

We seek applicants for a full-time position at the Challenger Learning Center to develop high engagement STEM curriculum, materials, and activities, as well as lead hands-on STEM lessons and deliver professional development sessions for K-8 students and their teachers.
General responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop engaging, Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)-aligned STEM curriculum, materials, and activities for K-8 students to meet the Challenger Learning Center's programmatic needs
  • Lead hands-on STEM experiences for elementary and middle school students in both physical and virtual settings
  • Design informal assessments and evaluation tools to gauge student learning and engagement during STEM experiences
  • Create and deliver professional development sessions for K-12 teachers, focusing on emerging trends, effective strategies, and methods for reinforcing NGSS concepts

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or closely related field
  • Demonstrated experience in instructional design and developing comprehensive STEM curriculum for a classroom setting
  • Ability to prioritize, manage, and advance multiple complex projects simultaneously
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to foster professional relationships with diverse community members and groups
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent public speaking, interpersonal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to work well both independently and in a fast-paced collaborative environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications

Desired Qualifications

  • Master's degree in education, science education, curriculum and instruction, or a related field
  • Valid Illinois Teacher’s license
  • Familiarity with educational technology tools and platforms for creating interactive multimedia-rich instructional materials and assessments
  • Knowledge of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles and experience developing inclusive, culturally responsive curriculum and learning experiences
  • Experience interacting with a variety of audiences, including K-8 students and adults
