Heartland Community College is Hiring an Associate Director, Adult Education (Workforce Readiness) Near Normal, IL

Description

We seek applicants for a full-time position to support the Dean in the administration of Adult Education programs, with a focus on leading functions related to student transition into the workforce, including career preparedness programming and individualized student supports.

The College's Adult Education program supports a diverse population of learners including traditionally under-served learners, community members looking to develop their English language skills, and those seeking to advance their educational achievements.

General responsibilities include but are not limited to

  • Develop and oversee career-focused courses for Adult Education
  • Oversee individual workforce transition services for Adult Education students
  • Provide coaching to students for career preparedness
  • Hire, train, supervise, schedule, and develop Adult Education Career Navigators
  • Build connections with and engage local employers to create employment opportunities for Adult Education students
  • Plan and implement career-focused events such as mock job fairs
  • Expand, coordinate, and maintain experiential and service learning opportunities for Adult Education students, including but not limited to volunteering and job shadowing
  • Procure guest speakers from the community to present to Adult Education students about social services as well as employment skills and opportunities
  • Manage efforts related to the student employment tracking system
  • Support the Dean in meeting grant outcomes for targeted student populations related to career preparedness, job placement, and other goals
  • Collaborate as appropriate with the College’s Career Center in offering services and events
  • Teach Adult Education classes as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field
  • Minimum two years of work experience in an academic setting
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and inclusively as a team member and within a diverse campus community
  • Organizational and planning skills, attention to detail, ability to work both independently and as part of a team and to function professionally under pressure

Desired Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in education or related field
  • Adult Education administrative and/or teaching experience
  • Proven commitment to and understanding of the special needs of students from diverse academic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds
  • Knowledge of local employers
  • Experience managing/coordinating academic programs
  • Supervisory experience
