TITLE: Sales – Whole Goods

DEPARTMENT CLASSIFICATION: Whole Goods Sales

REPORTS TO: Sales Manager

FAIR LABOR STANDARDS ACT Exempt

JOB AUTHORITY: Position has no management responsibilities. Position reports directly to the Sales Manager. Must coordinate activities with Trucking, Parts Sales & Service.

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION: Position’s primary responsibilities are marketing and sales of whole goods products carried by the dealership.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBLITIES:

Responsible for generating revenue by :

  • Understanding our markets
  • Visiting potential customers and building relationships to enable current and future sales & service opportunities. Also, maintaining a visit & follow up log and acting upon them to increase the dealership sales.
  • Ensuring Walk – in customers are greeted appropriately and inquires are made as to their needs.
  • Telephone inquires are handled in an effective, timely and courteous manner.
  • Requests for information received via fax, e-mail, in writing and through the web site etc., are handled in an effective, timely and courteous manner.
  • Meeting or exceeding established sales goals
  • Developing and updating a customer database to include e-mail address and products/services bought from the dealership.
  • Contacting all potential, current and past customers on some regular basis to understand how we can help them now and in the future and to offer them specials when applicable.
  • Providing the Administrative Support personnel the appropriate information they need to complete on line or paper documentation to complete a transaction.

Responsible for preparing equipment to be offered for sale as follows:

  • Preparing equipment for sale by performing general maintenance checks with the assistance of the mechanic to be sure it is working as designed
  • Preparing used equipment by identifying and facilitating minor cosmetic work
  • Arraigning trucking for customer equipment delivery
  • Setting up and maintaining equipment for display in a manner that would attract potential customers
  • Photographing equipment as necessary for advertising or for distribution to potential customers
  • Working with Sales Manager / Marketing Manager designing and implementing an Advertising plan
  • Verifying pricing with Sales Manager / Assistant Sales Manager.
  • Responsible for Negotiating sales of equipment and other related items as follows:
  • Tactfully and with respect negotiates deal with the customer
  • Determines all other charges due (freight etc.) and best method of delivery if applicable
  • Accepts payment or arranges for appropriate financing
  • Works with Administrative personnel to document transaction and update all pertinent records
  • Performs follow-up to ensure customer satisfaction

OTHER JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for keeping current on our products, those of our competitors and the industry in general
  • Responsible for representing the company at fairs, and other public events for the purpose of promotion and sales of our products
  • Responsible for knowing and following all company policies
  • Responsible for cleaning and organizing work area.
  • Responsible to provide assistance to other sales and service personnel as needed.
  • Responsible for other duties as assigned by Manager.

Experience, Skills/abilities & Knowledge/Education

Experience:

1. Required

a. Valid drivers license with good safety record

b. Knowledge and experience in agriculture, landscape, and construction industries

c. Three years sales experience preferred but not required

2. Desired

a. Experience with operating computers

b. Mechanical knowledge of agriculture and construction equipment

Skills/abilities:

1. Required

a. Excellent customer service and communications skills, as determined by Sales Manager.

b. Ability to sell

c. Good math skills

d. Skill/ability to operate or learn to operate a computer

e. Ability to work independently and be self-motivated

f. Be willing to work weekdays, Saturdays, and evenings as required

g. Ability to tend company displays at fairs and other events as required by manager.

h. Keep log of customer visits and report to Sales Manager on a daily basis.

i. Ability to work successfully in a team orientated fast paced environment

2. Desired

a. Some mechanical ability/orientation

b. Skill/ability to operate a fork lift or similar device

Knowledge/education:

1. Required

a. High School Diploma or equivalent

b. Reasonable knowledge of the industry and it’s trends

2. Desired

a. Some trade school or college level education in sales, marketing, accounting, or Ag mechanics
