The role you’ll contribute:

Responsible for the procurement, inventory placement and control of all food, paper and chemical purchases for the Nutrition Services department. Responsible for following Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment Safe Handling Guidelines regarding food safety and sanitation.

The value you’ll bring to the team:

• Maintains adequate supplies of stock by placing orders without exceeding set inventory levels.
• Follows PAR levels and utilizes departmental, hospital and group purchasing contracts to keep supply cost at a minimum whenever possible.
• Keeps department notified of changes in availability of supplies, new or different products, back orders, special problems, discontinued items, packaging or storage changes.
• Informs Executive Chef and/or leadership of opportunities for special pricing, deals, contracts, or other potential cost saving issues.
• Ensures that the kitchen is always stocked with emergency items.
• Handles special diet requests in an appropriate, quick manner and gets back to requestor on status of request.
• Communicates with vendors, customers, coworkers in an appropriate, professional manner.
• Trains other personnel on purchasing activities as needed.
• Checks orders for completeness, damage, proper dating, and accuracy and notifies vendor immediately of discrepancies.
• Processes invoices according to Finance department protocol and verifies suppliers are charging correct prices.
• Keeps food stock price list current to adequately reflect hospital charges and to provide an accurate estimate of inventory.
• Use quality assurance process whenever possible.
• Processes all outdated returns to receive credit as soon as possible with contracted return company.
• Actively involved in removing recalled products and replacing stock as necessary.
• Maintains inventory levels at or below the dollar figures set by the leadership.
• Coordinates, prepares and participates in the annual physical inventory.
• Maintains a comparison of inventory levels by section and notifies leadership of significant changes.
• All purchases are in accordance with HAPPC and State guidelines and regulations.
• All production requisitions are filed in an easily retrievable system for later retrieval if necessary.
• Performs safety inspections, refrigerator inspections, and other quality control functions as directed.

• Customer Relations
• Basic computer skills

Preferred qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Two years of previous inventory control, purchasing or related experience
• Previous food service experience
