Summary
The medical receptionist is responsible for prompt and courteous appointment scheduling and patient registration. This individual will be addressing a broad range of patient inquiries including but not limited to scheduling appointments/procedures, processing medical records requests, updating patient accounts, etc. The medical receptionist will be cross trained in other functions of the front office. This individual will report directly to the Office Manager. We are looking for a motivated team player who will take initiative to efficiently complete their assigned duties while assisting other departments when needed.
Hours: 6:30am - 3:00pm ET
Responsibilities
- Schedule appointments and consultations for new and established patients
- Collect, update and verify the accuracy and completeness of patient demographic and insurance information for accurate chart creation and coordination of services (i.e. appointments, procedures, consults, etc.)
- Responsible for insurance eligibility verification and over the phone payment collection
- Daily recording and reconciliation of all monies collected over the phone
- Inform management and clinical staff of any cancelled, add-on or changed procedures
- Process registration intake forms for online appointment scheduling
- Process and coordinate referrals for approved services per insurance carrier requirements
- Provide exceptional customer service and ensure patient satisfaction
- Collaborate with healthcare team members to ensure efficient and effective patient care
- Maintain an orderly and secure system for creating and storing patient charts
- Cross-train in medical records and chart preparation
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Office Manager
Requirements
- High School Graduate required
- Required minimum 2-years medical office experience working in a healthcare setting; preferably in an ambulatory surgery center or private practice
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology and insurance carrier requirements
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Proficiency in using phone systems and electronic medical records (EMR)
- Ability to prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Must be able to work under pressure
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
- Compassionate and empathetic towards patients and their families
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient information
- Demonstrated ability to type 45 wpm
