Access to Advanced Health Institute is Hiring a Research Associate I/II Near Seattle, WA

Access to Advanced Health Institute is a Seattle-based, nonprofit biotech institute that is undergoing a transformation to lead a global coalition to fight infectious disease and address health disparities and inequities worldwide. We think it’s unfair that where a person lives or how much money they make dictates their access to life-changing medicine. We’re looking for people who want to join us in increasing accessibility to tools that harness the immune system and allow a healthy life, free of illness and disease, regardless of geography or socio-economic status - compassion and collaboration come with change.
We will serve as a center for innovation and collaboration in vaccine and cancer immunotherapy research and development, early-phase GMP manufacturing, and training the next generation of scientists and manufacturing teams to achieve our mission. This is where the high-quality science of an academic research organization and the product-development capabilities of a biotech company meet. The exact title and pay are to be determined based on qualifications and experience.
Summary:
We are looking for a junior to mid-level Research Associate to aid in the development of new vaccines against emerging and re-emerging viral diseases.
  • The research associate will work to support vaccine studies in rodent models of viral disease.
  • Immunoassay experience, good judgment, and the ability to faithfully follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are required.
  • A successful candidate possesses excellent attention to detail and eagerness to work on a team dedicated to vaccine research.
Responsibilities:
  • Run standard immunoassays (ELISA, ELISpot, ICS/flow cytometry, HAI and other functional antibody assays) on animal serum and cell samples to support vaccine research studies; training will be provided as necessary.
  • Perform animal handling techniques to support vaccine research studies (e.g., animal earmarking, i.m./i.p./s.c. injections, retro-orbital blood draws, euthanasia, cardiac bleeds, animal dissection); training will be provided as necessary.
  • Process rodent immune cells from lungs, bone marrow, spleen, and lymph node samples, etc.
  • Handle BSL2 virus samples under appropriate biosafety conditions; training will be provided if necessary.
  • Keep excellent experimental records of procedures and results.
  • Strict adherence to biosafety practices.
  • Assist with training of peers and junior research assistants and associates, ensures completion and quality of daily assignments.
  • Support multiple collaborative discovery/contract projects simultaneously.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Requires occasional effort outside of normal business hours.
Requirements:
  • Associate degree in a bioscience-related field
  • Familiarity with setting up and running immunoassays (e.g., ELISA, ELISpot, ICS/flow cytometry, HAI, other functional antibody assays, or a subset thereof)
  • Experience with cell culture techniques

  • 1 years’ experience in a laboratory setting, either in an academic, pharmaceutical, or biotechnology environment

  • Willingness to receive standard FDA-approved immunizations as deemed necessary by Environmental Health & Safety Personnel.
  • Ability to build and maintain dependable and trustworthy working relationships with teammates.

Highly Desirable:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a bioscience-related field
  • Experience with rodent procedural skills, including i.m., i.p., and s.c. injections, retro-orbital blood collection, and animal dissection.
  • Experience with bio/immunological assay adaptation or development
  • Basic proficiency in MS Excel, GraphPad Prism, and/or other data analysis tools
